Posted On Dec 1, 2017
The Centre for Health Sciences Training, Research and Development (CHESTRAD) will on Monday 4 December 2017 hold the grand finale of the Community Outreach initiative of its flagship programme, “I WILL GIVE” in the Main Hall of Epe Local Government in Epe, Lagos State.
CHESTRAD is a global African-led organization which seeks to impact the fields of health, education and livelihood opportunities for people living in depressed communities. “I WILL GIVE” is an innovative platform to expand domestic financing from organised philanthropy, community giving and corporate social responsibility.
“I WILL GIVE” uses crowd funding and impact investment as avenues to pool resources which are then deployed for social development, particularly in the low income neighbourhoods. The resources generated are channeled into pro-poor programmes of high social impact and economic benefit identified as having the highest return on investment.
The Outreach Initiative is being undertaken to launch the 2018 Campaign and Giving Drive with the theme of “Giving to our children: Enabling tomorrow through community giving and philanthropy’. The Initiative is being supported by the Lagos State Government through its Ministries of Health and Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs as well as a consortium of local sponsors led by Chief Olufunmilola Okunowo, the Bobasuwa of Ijebu Ode.
A statement by Dr. Lola Dare, President of CHESTRAD International and Global Director of I Will Give disclosed that the 2017 Community Outreach have been held over a two-week period in seven selected Local Governments of the state. The beneficiary local governments are Lagos Mainland, Lagos Island, Ikeja, Alimosho, Eti Osa, Ikorodu and Epe.
During the Outreach, school materials were distributed to pupils of public primary schools free of charge to alleviate the pressure on parents and guardians, especially in the low income communities. Selected speakers, community leaders and faith-based organisations also gave pep talks on the advantages of giving to the underprivileged in society.
Dr. Dare said that the grand finale in Epe will witness the formal launch of the “Giving to Our Children” campaign as well as the roll out of advocacy initiatives to encourage Lagosians to cultivate the habit of giving in cash and kind for beneficial social initiatives and the I Will Give Platform. The Community Outreach Initiative shall be an on-going project that will be taken to other states of the federation, she concluded.
