Why The Chief Of Staff To Governor Ben Ayade, Martin Orim Must Be Arrest, Investigated And Prosecuted – Okoi Obono-Obla
The unremitting assault, battery and dehumanising treatment meted and visited on a law abiding citizens, Prince Jeremiah Ashang and his cousin by two Mobile Police Officers, Corporals Yohanna Dabo and Abbas Iliya (attached to Police Mobile Force 11, Calabar) on the orders of the Chief of Staff to Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State, Martin Orim on the 18th July, 2015 at 0.1,00 hours at Gramic Hotel along Ranch Road,Obudu, Cross River State after a drinking binge is unfortunate, condemnable, nauseating, unacceptable, scandalous and smacks of impunity, arrogance and savagery of the highest order that is out of place in a modern democratic country like Nigeria.
Prince Ashang and his cousin were mercilessly beaten with gun butts, false imprisoned, bounded, tear gassed and their clothes torn to shred by Corporals Yohanna Dabo and Abbas Iliya on the order of Martin Orim.
As if the assault, dehumanization and battery visited on Prince Ashang and his cousin was not enough, Martin Orim audaciously ordered these roguish Police Officers to shoot to dead the duo who however managed to escape.
The assault, battery and egregious infringement of the fundamental rights of Prince Ashang and his cousin was aided and abated by an official of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, one Peter Atianshe Akpanke.
It beggars belief that such act of savagery and dehumanization can be visited on innocent citizens by a supposedly senior official of the Government of Cross River State as Martin Orim!
It is obvious that Martins Orim is obsessed with showing off that he is a powerful individual and therefore a lawless fellow because he happens to be the Chief of Staff to Governor Ayade.
Such naked show of power as manifested by Martin Orim is a threat to democracy and society.
It is equally disheartening and outrageous that the Police have not deemed it proper to promptly investigate the criminal act perpetrated by Martin Orim and his cohorts, Corporals Yohanna Dabo and Abbas Iliya and Peter Atianshe Akpanke on Prince Ashang and his cousin.
I therefore call on the Commissioner of Police, Cross River State to immediately commence an investigation of this matter.
I also call on Governor Ben Ayade to immediately place on suspension Martin Orim till the Police conclude investigation of the matter.
