Why Oyegun Must Reply Yakubu Dogara By Adnan Mukhtar Adam
The leadership crises in both the red and green chamber among the APC members over principal officers is disheartening and it shows how desperate and power mongers politicians in Nigeria are.
What even worsened the situation was the ruling party’s involvement on the matter by making its stand over principal positions after that of Speaker/Senate President and their deputies has failed. The party nominated principal positions of the Senate to the Senate president whom instead of sticking to he defied it by naming some different people as principal officers stating that the people nominated by the party were not endorsed by their different caucuses. The same thing is about to happen in the house as Speaker Dogara rejected the party’s position, in his response Dogara cited the Federal Character Principle as an obstacle for the Party to get what it wants, in his letter he gave reference to the previous leadership of the house under Ibrahim Salisu Buhari, Ghali Umar Naabba, Aminu Bello Masari, Patricia Olabunmi Etteh, Dimeji Bankole and Aminu Waziri Tambuwal all according to Dogara the federal character principle was followed on the issue of principal positions.
The actions of both Dogara and Saraki were unfortunate and will not yield any positive result, their actions can be seen as disloyalty to the position of their party, a good member of a party is someone that’s always loyal to the decision of his party as far as that decision does not breach or contradicts the provision of the constitution, when Tambuwal won the speakership position in the house, he tried and calm the members of his camp in accepting the position of their party over the issue of principal officers, the party nominated Mulikat Adeola Akande whom lost the race to Tambuwal as house leader, Leo Ogor as her deputy, for the minority the ACN as the second party with highest members produced the minority leader in person of Hon Femi Gbajabiamila, he did well as leader of the opposition at that time, it is because of this competence the APC nominated him for the position of House Leader which Yakubu Dogara is rejecting not on the basis of he is not qualified but on that he has contested against him and members of his camp are not in support of such a move. For the interest of peace, i advice Dogara to stick to the position of his party by not allowing intrigues and enemies of change to laugh at us.
Dogara’s response to the leadership of APC by giving reference with the federal character principle is not convincing and not a reason at all, in Oyegun’s reply on the said matter, i want him to ask Dogara the following questions:
Was the federal character principle applicable in the National Assembly of Nigeria among its members on the issue of principal positions or in the civil service?
Does the Federal Character Principle has any recognition constitutionally in the National Assembly more especially on the issue of principal positions?
All the previous Leadership positions in the house were that of the PDP, why is he giving reference with something the PDP had done? Dogara! This is APC and it’s supreme, a loyal member will not be joining irrelevant issues with his party or does he want to tell us that he is still a PDP blood.
If the PDP had followed federal character principle on leadership positions, on what basis? Is it on abiding by the provision of the constitution or what? Why will he be citing reference with what the PDP had done, a party that misrule this country for 16 years with mismanagement and misappropriation everywhere.
The party has done all what it could do for you in terms of giving you it’s ticket which is what makes you to get the seat you are occupying today after the PDP which you were citing reference with under Mallam Isa Yuguda in your state have denied you it’s ticket to contest, the difference between the APC and PDP is very clear.
APC under Chief John Odigie Oyegun must respond for the interest of clearing doubts in the mind of Nigerians as soon as possible, yes it is time to do that.
