When Mothers Become Murderers By Rabiu Usman
Though, it is an established fact that reproduction stems from a male gender called Adam, from whom the first mother and woman of the earth, Hawwa’ (Eve) was created – it should similarly be worthy of recognition that reproduction (bearing of offspring) henceforth did became one of the torrid cycle of womanhood.
Unlike a male, a female needs minute by minute protection lest she derail to the wrong path considering her empathy packed filled heart. Virginia Woolf did say in her play of “A Room Of One’s Own” that “Anything may happen when womanhood ceased to be protected”. Apt in her assertion. Every gender needs to protected, but a woman’s tutelage is always between a thin rope of construction and destruction. She swings either of the ways.
A female’s unending characteristics has made every gender, both male, female, heterosexual, bisexual and any other sexually inclined personality to make a woman the most revered and dearest above a man because they’ve all had a bath from the stream of their abundant and torrent empathy and compassion. A woman has no parsimony in such dealing with humanity, unlike their male counterpart, as such they easily and readily succumb to the yearning of an “empathical” plea.
This wonderful and workaholic gender are the custodian of nation builders and spoilers respectively.
Women’s attribution with empathy and compassion does not exempt them from being treacherous or a gender that is free from committing atrocity in all ramifications. We’ve had tales upon tales of some women who dump their new born infants in a dumping sites. Various reasons abound for different perpetrators. To some – it is for fear of denting the family’s image. To others – it is to scamper a burdening responsibility of an illegitimate child and even with some being extremely callous in stocking theirs in pits or conventional toilets.
All these mixed characters of empathy, compassion and cruelty dashes us back to what the root of a woman is; they are created from the rib, the most crook part of a man’s (Adam) rib. If you try to straighten it, you will break it.
Everything about us is breaking at the moment with the breakage of our teen girls into rubble as bombers and suiciders. Our decades of neglect to the brittleness and fragility of this gender is ripping our minds, hearts and souls in the most shattered form as the reap of what we had sowed, so much almost beyond healing. Ideally, when women go wrong, men go right after them. But nay! The men were initially wrong-doers: from the political class, the ruling class, the led class, the elites and downtrodden class, the kidnapping class, the armed robbery class, the militant class, the gunmen (known and unknown) class and the bombing class.
And again, recently, the rising number of girl/child bomber in the queue of evil-doers is a huge of a mountain and daunting task for any nation to bear. A woman is not only weaker than man by nature, but also less in intelligence.
Chibok school girls just woke up a consciously unconscious teeming Nigerian masses. A people that will indolently carry on with their slumber amidst a burning neighbourhood in the dead of the night. The spontaneous abduction of our teenage girls in various parts of the nation, the 20 earlier abducted from FGC Monguno, Borno State by insurgents were forsaken long enough to get brainwashed and to be metamorphosed as “feminine teen bombers”. This could be a move by terrorists in saving the toll in the deaths of their foot-soldiers, and invariably cashing on a loose setting of government that makes her girl/child vulnerable.
A cheetah moves very swift, but it is possible to move more swifter in the chase to for it/her hunt. We’ve seen how fast insurgents were in mobilising 200 plus teen girls and guiding them in reciting one of the pivotal chapter of the scripture in a space of few days of captivity. A month or more is enough room for such a sect/group to unleash our sisters and daughters as murderers.
Responsibility only gets magnified by cutting corners. It may go back to rest, but surely and certainly, it returns much more stronger and deadlier. Its 100 plus days since these girls were whisked away. Their each passing of the day in captivity is an anticipated mayhem on the society.
A community in Chibok is about to become history. The mothers of tomorrow were enrolled in school by the mothers of today to foster and maintained a motherly tie, just like the late Afro-beat legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, the motive has since been hijacked. They’re systematically being unleashed as bombers. How heartbreaking!
Oh Lord! This is not a good time to be a mother or a girl/child. When mothers become murders, then you’d be left with no choice rather than to paraphrase the quote of “What a man can do, a woman can do it more dirty and deadly with ease”.
How many more teenage girl will tow the line of suicidal bravado before the government act now and fast? May Allah have mercy on us!
