The Speaker, Imo State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu, has stated that the present House of Assembly led by him in the state has formally returned critical sectors of democratic governance to the Original owners; the people of the state.
Rt. Hon. Uwajumogu, who was speaking with reporters in Owerri yesterday, identified the enactment of people-oriented laws by the state House of Assembly as a strong support to the government’s massive provision of social amenities such as, the introduction of free and qualitative education, massive construction and rehabilitation of rural and urban road networks, construction of 27 state-of-the-arts facility General Hospital in all the council areas.
Others include, the construction of 2 detached storey building in schools in all the electoral wards in the state, adding that the introduction of the Community Government Council, CGC, has formally brought governance closer to the people, while giving them a sense of belonging.
He attributed the success of the infrastructural revolution going on in the state to the Imo four year rolling budget, a developmental blue print that is tied to every kobo meant for projects as enunciated by the government of the day, to fully integrate development down to the nooks and crannys of the state.
According to the Speaker, these efforts were geared towards bequeathing an egalitarian Society, where the middle class would be made to truly appreciate the positive impacts of democracy.
He said: “it is no longer news that the cordial working relationship between the Executive and the legislature in the state has brought good tidings to the people of Imo State. It is really the time critical sectors of governance are freely given to the people. The enabling law passed by the state House of Assembly has really set this developmental ball rolling” he stated.
