The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has said it will support any gubernatorial candidate that is duly elected by the delegates in the ongoing primary election.
The party in a statement on Monday said it has been at the forefront of deepening the nascent democracy in Nigeria.
“Democracy allows several candidates to put themselves up for service and the people make their choice through the ballot, instead of the unholy practice of anointing a sole candidate.”
“We are committed to a free and fair contest, where a candidate will win based on the quality of their programmes and popular acceptability among the people. We are committed to a contest where the winner will be the choice of the people and not the choice of a godfather,” statement said.
“We want to assure all the stakeholders that the primary election will be transparent, free and fair. Kwara PDP has no preference for any candidate and will support the winner of the contest, irrespective of senatorial zone, religion or gender,” the party added.
