We Killed 20 Boko Haram Members in Maiduguri –JTF. It Is Not True – Abu Qaqa
Security forces in the Joint Task Force (JTF) yesterday said they killed 20 suspected Boko Haram insurgents in Maiduguri during hours-long shootout on Saturday night that left one soldier dead and two others injured on Saturday night.
The Field Operations Officer of the JTF in Borno state, Col. Victor Ebhaleme, told reporters in the state capital that “two other soldiers were also injured.”
Ebhaleme said: “We got intelligence report that some suspected Boko Haram terrorists were having a meeting at a particular location in the metropolis. When we approached the venue of their meeting point, the terrorists opened fire and the JTF returned fire, which led to the killing of twenty of the terrorists while we lost one soldier, and two others sustained injury.”
But the militant Islamic sect last night disputed the claim, saying those killed were not its members but “innocent civilians”.
Abul Qaqa, the spokesman of the Jama’atu Ahlil Sunna lid Da’awati wal Jihad, also known as Boko Haram, said last night that the claim by the JTF on the killing of its members was not true.
“They only succeeded in killing innocent civilians,” said Qaqa. “It is not possible for twenty of our members to sit in a volatile place and hold a meeting. It is not possible.”
Qaqa, who spoke to reporters by phone, added: “We will not relent in our offensive until a Sharia state is established across Nigeria, by Allah’s will.”
