How Victor Umeh, Willie Obiano Forced Peter Obi Out of APGA
By Fejiro Oliver
Following the resignation of former governor Peter Obi of Anambra State as the Chairman, Board of Trustees of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), we have uncovered the facts that the resignation was caused by disagreement between embattled APGA Chairman, Victor Umeh and the State Governor, Willie Obiano to allow Obi a free hand to run the BOT board.
We gathered that Obi was never a Chairman as stated in the party constitution but only bearing the name without any power to act. The decision to stop the ratification of Obi as the Chairman we gathered was initiated by Umeh to Obiano, stating that allowing Obi to function fully will only make both of them to lose grip of the party, a game they cannot afford to play.
According to a source, Obi has been nursing the wounds of being relegated to the background for long and he could no longer bear it. The source state that since the ex-governor left power; Umeh has not given him the respect he used to give. Even when Obi wants to call a meeting of stakeholders, the source noted that Umeh will always give reasons on why it cannot hold.
Speaking further, another source revealed that the defection by some key members of APGA to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was planned by Obi who ordered them to defect, including Uche Ekwunife. The defection was to pave way for Obi resignation and give the impression that he was forced to leave by the current happenings in the party and not the frustration caused him by Umeh and Obiano.
Obi is also said to be lamenting the way his uncompleted projects have been abandoned for new ones, despite all the promise of Obiano never to do so. We also gathered that Obi has decided to mend fence with Ifeanyi Ubah who he almost frustrated his business, but this time to join forces politically to fight Obiano and Umeh as they both loot the state treasury. More members of APGA who are loyal to Obi are expected to defect in the coming weeks, while the grand defection will be the formal declaration of Obi to the PDP before the 2015 general elections.
