Uwajumogu To Okigwe Youths: I’ve Made Youth Development My Priority
The Speaker, Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu, has disclosed that his passion for the welfare of youths in the state has translated into greater empowerment and development, assuring youths from the Okigwe Senatorial zone of the state to rally-round his vision of carrying them along in his day-to-day activities.
Rt. Hon. Uwajumogu, who was speaking to a cross section of reporters in Owerri last weekend, described the youths as the engine room, as well as the critical components of any viable society, maintaining that if properly harnessed, the youths would be transformed into serious elements which could determine the tide of history of any given society.
He explained that his foray into politics was informed by his desire to galvanize a better platform through which the youths would formally be integrated into the mainstream of national growth and development.
The Speaker who posited that his representation of the zone at the upper legislative chambers would open up the flood gates of development for the youths using his well established connections, and well as his experiences, maintained that having assisted in the empowerment and employment of over 1,500 Imo Youths into different sectors of life in his capacity as the Speaker of the Imo Assembly, Okigwe youths stood a better chance of benefitting maximally if given the mandate come 2015.
He further explained that during his representation, entrepreneurship development and skill acquisition would be given a pride of place as youths who are willing to tap in their God-given potentials would be encouraged and sponsored to aid employment opportunities for the teeming youths of the area.
While urging youths from the area to key into developmental politics for the betterment of their respective communities, the Speaker also advised them to shun what he termed ‘’pay as you go” politics which he said was gradually becoming the order of the day, stressing that only proper concentration on genuine and tested candidates for elective positions would actualize their lofty dreams of becoming leaders of tomorrow.
