UPDATE: Three Killed As Suspected Boko Haram Gunmen Attacks DSS Office In Lokoja
Three member of the suspected Boko Haram gunmen were yesterday shot died in a gun duel that ensued when members of the sect attacked the headquarters of the Department of State Services (DSS), in Lokoja, the capital city of Kogi State.
The suspected Boko Haram members reportedly stormed the DSS office located along Hassan Katsina way which also houses the Zone 8 headquarters of the Nigerian police Force, The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), office as well as the State house of Assemblycomplex amongst others.
The attack which lasted several hours began at about 11pm Friday night which serious exchange of gun fire between the suspected insurgents and DSS operatives.
Commissioner of police in the state, Emmanuel Ojukwu confirmed the incident, but said it is not clear if the attack was carried out by members of the Boko Haram group.
“I cannot confirm whether they are Boko Haram members or not. All I know is that they are criminal elements and the law will take its course.
“We are investigating to know the circumstances that led to that attack, their motive and others’’, he said.
A DSS source however said it is believed that the group carried out the attack in a bid to free some of its members held in the office.
The DSS source confirmed that some members of the group including Abu Kaka, a dreaded commander of the sect is in the custody of the DSS in Lokoja.
The source added that three members of the sect were killed, while some others were arrested. He said some DSS Operatives sustained injuries, while vehicles in the premises were burnt by the sect members.
When our reporter visited the scene of the incident, a Dangote trailer belonging to Obajana Cement company was seen on the road leading to the DSS office.
An eye witness who lives around the area said the sect members used the truck to block access to the road apparently to make their operation easy.
Another eye witness said but for the quick intervention of a detachment of the Nigerian army, who came to join in the fire power of the DSS Operatives, the suspected gunmen may have succeeded in their quest. Abusidiqu was unable to independently confirm the intervention of the soldiers.

The gunmen according to eye witnesses stormed the Lokoja office of the service, located along Hassan Katsina road in the early hours of Saturday morning in a bid to free some of its members detained in the office.
Before our reporter left the scene, vehicle wishing to pass through the road leading to the DSS office were turned back as the place has been barricaded.
