Updated: Unknown Gunmen Kill Students of Federal Polytecnic, Mubi
Eye witness report said the men in military uniform asked the students to line up and then say their names, after which some of them were then shot dead and others stabbed with knives, and their bodies left in lines outside the buildings.
While Police source put the number of death at 25, some residents said the number of victims is between 35 and 41 persons.
Adamawa state police spokesman, Mohammed Ibrahim who visited the scene of the incident, said two of the dead were security guards and the other an elderly resident, while the others are students.
Mr Ibrahim But he said the attackers had inside knowledge: “The attackers called the victims by name and killed them” wondering why some were killed and others spared
He said some of the dead were Muslims and others Christian, but said the motive for the attack was not yet clear.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but radical Islamist group, Boko Haram is widely suspected to have carried out the attack.
Meanwhile, thousands of students have fled the school and Mubi town. A fearful student population fled to avoid falling victim of further attacks as their parents kept calling them over the phone to return to their homes in different parts of the country.
