UNIBEN Rusticates 5 Students For Leading Protest Against Fee Hike
Management of the University of Benin, Edo State, has announced the rustication of five students of the institution for leading a protests against hike in various fees in the institution.
A statement issued by the university press said the protest organized by the Students Union Government
(SUG) executives was meant to disrupt the 47th Founders Day lecture and 43rd Convocation ceremony of the institution.
The affected students reportedly staged a peaceful protest on November 24, 2017 after the school management increased various fees.
The affected students are President of UNIBEN SUG, Osamudiamen Ogbidi, Justus Aidenagnon, Innocent Momodu, Goodnews Ehiabhi and Benjamin Majekodumi.
Three of them were rusticated for one academic session while two of them were rusticated for two academic session.
Public Relations Officer (PRO) of UNIBEN, Mr. Michael Osasuyi said the students were rusticated because the university is to train students in learning and character.
Osasuyi said any student that broke the law would be made to face the consequences.
