Two RPGs Launched Into Bukuru Area in Jos
Following an earlier launch of a Rocket Propelled Grenade directed at the Nurul Islam Primary School in the Kerana area of Bukuru in Jos leading to the unfortunate death of a 6 year old boy, two more Rocket Propelled Grenade was this evening fired into the same area making it the third in less than 12 hours.
Confirming the incidence, the spokesman of the Special Task Force, STF in Jos, Salisu Mustapha said the grenades exploded mid air, but not without leaving a passer-by seriously injured.
The second RPG fired for the day Witnesses said was directed at a three-storey residential building near the police station at Bukuru market, while the third was reportedly fired close to a STF camp site.
According to the spokesperson of the Special task force, STF, Salisu Mustapha, the boy was hit after some gunmen opened fire on Nurul Islam School in the Kerana area of Bukuru in Jos.
Narrating the details of the incident which lead to the death of the 6 year old boy, the STF spokesperson said some men, driving in an Opel car, fired an RPG at the school.
“They came on a vehicle and fired an RPG,” Mr. Mustapha said. “Their target was the school building; fortunately they could not hit the target properly and the kid that was killed was outside the school building, we have fragments of the explosive device used.”
Security operatives have reportedly cordoned off the area of the three attacks.
This development is a new twist to the crisis that has engulfed Plateau State since the disagreement between the Beroms and Fulanis assumed violent dimensions.
