Two Boko Haram Commanders, 15 Fighters Killed After Fierce Fighting with Nigerian Troops in Bazza
As the fighting between members of the Boko Haram insurgents and the Nigerian troops in its bid to recapture Michika and Bazza towns raged, the insurgents suffered a setback on Tuesday morning with the loss of some of their fighters.
The troops killed two of sect’s commanders and 15 other fighters in a fierce gun battle in the town of Bazza overran by the insurgents over a week ago.
A military source who spoke on condition of anonymity said that two dreaded commanders of the sect reportedly in charge of Gulak and Shuwa, were among the dead after a fierce battle between the two sides.
Although the troops are yet to recapture any of the towns more than a week after Boko Haram annexed Michika and Bazza, but the gains recorded by the troops on Tuesday is a step forward.
Meanwhile, bodies of indigenes caught in the crossfire are reportedly littering the town following renewed fighting between Nigerian troops
The sad development is further compounded by the report of people being slaughtered and women raped as the insurgents maintained their siege on the two towns.
