Tukur Begs Govs Akpabio, Shema, Others To Help PDP Raise Funds, Says Party Is Broke
Barely two weeks after Abusidiqu.com reported that the Peoples Democratic Party has been hit by financial crisis and several of its staff and service providers are owed salaries as well as payment for services rendered, the National Chairman of the Party, Alhaji Bamaga Tukur has declared the party broke and called for concerted effort at raising funds for it.
Tukur laid by the financial crisis rocking to party while inaugurating members of the party’s Finance Committee, expected to raise fund for the party with Governors Godswill Akpabio as Chairman and Governor Shehu Shema as deputy chairman.
He urged the two governors to come to the aid of the party by raising funds for it to meet its financial obligations.
Tukur said: “I must thank them for accepting to serve their party. Having seen the Committee members, our party is lucky, Nigeria is lucky because of the dedication on their part to see that our party waxes stronger. There is a big task ahead of us; the edifice we are building, all men of goodwill must support them to achieve the task ahead of them.”
Abusidiqu.om gathered that the party has been having difficulty raising funds after it was divided into two factions during its special national convention of the party held on 31st August in Abuja. Seven PDP governors along with former vice president Atiku Abubakar are now leading a faction of the party with its own national officers headed by Alhaji Kawu Baraje.
While accepting the task, Akpabio assured that the party’s bank accounts “will soon be uncommonly transformed”. He added that “the party has enormous responsibilities, one of which is to complete the national headquarter of our party. Right from today, the story will change. I am happy about the quality of men on the Committee; performing Ministers, governors and the Deputy Senate President. The finance of the party will be uncommonly transformed”
