Tribute to Nelson Mandela By Maxwell Adeyemi Adeleye
Death, the callous creature has struck again! To death, shark, with its whips and caprices and power to to kill and destroy inside the river is inconsequential. To death, the riches, the poor, the commoners, the proletariats, the bourgoersies, the business mogul, the political figures, the rulers, the movers, the shakers etc are equal. To death, the most wicked creature on earth, partiality, favoritism, tribalism, nepotism, are insignificant in the course of judgement.
How time files! On the 5th December, the cruel creature called death struck in Johannesburg, South Africa and took away a hero to a journey beyond. A freedom fighter, terror in the hands of the oppressors and voice of the voiceless and friend of the commoners has been hijacked from his people by death at the prime age of 95. Nelson Mandela, an uncommon civilian leader who governed South Africans with seal and sincerity of purpose is dead.
From 1994 to 1998, Mandela held the insignia of power in South Africa with a-never-seen-before meritorious service. Uncommon Reformation, renovation and innovation pervades the cities of Durban, Pretoria and Johannesburg during the reign of Mandela. Mandela, after being imprisoned for 27 years by the maximum dictators in his country for demanding for equity, fairness, and justice, left the four wall of prison and moved to the seat of power. He was expected to govern with reckless abandonment but selflessness and passion became his watchword.
Politically, Mandela was an institution known for consistency. Socially, Mandela was a model. Democratically, Mandela was an enigma. Morally, Mandela was a conscience. Ideologically, Mandela was highly sagacious and meticulous. Educationally, Mandela was a philosopher. Mandela fought for his people with utmost commitment. Mandela served his people with utmost loyalty and patriotism. Mandela was an embodiment of courage and honesty.
Dr. Nelson Mandela, with your good work while on earth, i have no doubt that you will make heaven. Consequently, Mandela, please when you get to the world beyond, kindly deliver the message below to Nigeria’s martyrs, fallen heroes and foremost nationalists.
Dear Madiba, kindly tell Herbert Macaulay that the party he helped founded in Nigeria has been turned to People Destroying Party. Tell Obafemi Awolowo that westerners now pay school fees without going to school. Tell Awolowo that people he gave free and sound education to now collect huge money for watery education. Tell Nnamdi Azikiwe that the long wall to democracy he built has fallen, as only the cracked fence still stands.
Dear Mandela, please tell Chief Anthony Enaharo that the independent nation he fought for is no more. Tell Ahmadu Bello that Nigerian judicial system now favors only the rich at the detriment of the poor. Also tell Baba Fela his dscendants have derailed from his ideology and principles. Tell Muritala Mohammed that we still use kerosene to cook and candles to see.
Dear Madiba, please tell the King Jaja of Opobo that Nigerians are still slaves in their own country. Tell Prof. Festus Iyayi that Federal gevernment paid N200 Billion into the account of the academic staff union of universities (ASUU) two weeks ago but the union has not seen alert. Please tell Saro Wiwa that his south south youths are still jobless and cashless. Tell Dele Giwa that the Nigerian press he died for has been bought with money by his killers.
Dear Mandela, kindly inform Ayo Daramola and Kehinde Fasuba that their case in the law court has been swept under the carpet as the alleged perpetrators now go arround unqueried. Madiba, help me tell Dim Ojukwu that Igbos are still in Nigeria and that his party, the All Progessives Grand Alliance (APGA) has been hijacked by those that made his dream for BIAFRA impossible.
Dear Hero Madiba, please tell Mooshood Kashimawo Abiola that the school named after him in Lagos by a Man from another ethnic group has been rejected by those he moulded with his money. Tell bola Ige that the people that killed him are still walking around the streets of Nigeria. Tell Gani Fawehinmi that the Activism he pursued till his last moment is now the most lucrative business in Nigeria. Tell Gani that not a single human right fighter is left in Nigeria except men of yesterday camouflaging as activists.
Tell Umoru Musa Yar’adua that the shoeless man from Otueke now wear platinum and gold-plated shoes and that Asari Dokubo and Tompolo have taken over the constitutional duties of the Nigerian Navy and Army. Tell Ken Saro Wiwa that most of the leaders of the militants in the Niger/Delta now own Private Jets at the detriment of the people. Tell Abacha that corruption, mal-administration and injustice still remain as he left them in Nigeria.
Today, with due respect to modesty and decency, I avow that no Mandalised leader exist in Nigeria as vandalism has replaced Mandelism.
Rest In Peace Madiba!
