To the Young Folks…IN A LAND LIKE THIS by Valentine Ogunaka @Naijamatta #Wordsmith
How do we survive in a land like this…
A land being governed by an army of thieves
A land where crime overrides justice
A land that says war is an anagram of peace
At the blushings of my pen, it is horror of a kind
It’s not beyond my ken, here terror is divine
I keep wondering what is trailing us behind
Cos’ the country is run like some ancient shrine
Corruption is the bane that depletes our treasury
The elites are insane and drunken with chicanery
They loot to relish for wanton luxury
And religious leaders have joined the camaraderie.
For how long in a land like this…
Shall our mind think evil and reek of debris
Aren’t religious sentiments very amiss?
How come we all infected with this ethnic disease?
But our eyes have seen the bones in the sands
And my heart tells me, we got their blood on our hands
For as long as we care not to understand
The embers of disunity would raze our land
So Young good people…
Of a land like no other
We cannot be unequal
Bigotry is a thought disorder
In a land like this…
In a land like this
Change is the word,
For glory and peace
