Three VIO Officers In Police Net Over Extortion
THE Niger State Police Command has arrested three Vehicle Inspection Officers for extorting commercial motorcycle riders in Minna, the Niger state capital.
The suspects, Aliyu Baba, Hashimu Abdullahi and Musa Mohammed were arrested by the Inspector-General of Police Tactical Squad.
One Mohammed Yusuf, was also arrested alongside the VIO officers for allegedly keeping the extorted money for them.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, confirmed the arrest on Thursday.
Elkana said the police operatives recovered N3,690 from the men.
The spokesman said the arrest of VIOs would serve as a lesson to law enforcement agents who might wish to involve themselves in such an act.
“The suspects are a disgrace to the civil service and should be punished to serve as deterrent to others,” he said, adding that the matter was under investigation.
