The Continuity And Change Agents Within The APC And A Need To Manage All By Suleiman Hashim
After the victory of the APC in the just concluded election, one has been able to learn a lot going by the various body languages in the activities of all the party members. The fact of the matter is that majority of the people who have won elections as well as those seeking positions want the status quo of sharing and PDP way to continue while only a few others are the real advocates of a change. Let us analyze these seeming dangers and how they could probably be mitigated.
When I saw the Governors and Governors-elect visit to GMB and their agenda, I knew a whole lot want the status quo to remain if not how on earth could these people think they want the entire government to succeed and then they are supplying anybody to be minister just because the person is their stooge and they are avoiding providing someone who could become more powerful?, this purely points to us those who were deceitful in their campaigns of change and of course our searchlight will be beamed on them and the states they govern from now on. As for me I only have confidence on just a few of the governors but I hope they have all learnt a few lessons from GMBs words to them that they should concentrate on sourcing for those to help them govern their states first. I also feel that is their priority and they should concentrate there. I also understand power play and lobby to be normal in the game but the desperation with which some others are lobbying also points to those who want status quo of looting to continue. This is evident in the race for the leadership of the National Assembly where none of them has even told why he/she wants to be there while there body languages shows they want to be there to continue to steal. They must have a rethink. The other set of people are a section of the country who knowingly or unknowingly have this notion that it’s our turn so we should “chop” money as if they have forgotten that they voted for change and change it must be. These actions so far has shown clearly that there a lot of those within the APC as well as those sympathetic to the APC who believe in continuity of the status quo of “chopping” money, blocking others from opportunities unless they lobby, impunity, oppression and intimidation. They must be watched and managed properly as well.
Meanwhile, even though I know humans can never be 100%, I have some confidence in the fact some of the APC people mean real change and the first being the principal (GMB). He has made certain decisions that have so far shown that and the one I admire most is his show of simplicity in his lifestyle as well as the way he receives visitors with so much reality without any artificial show off and wastage. Another key one is the insistence on working with qualified people meaning he wishes to place square pegs in square holes as much as possible. I believe with these and a lot others, GMB means business. Don’t also forget that surprisingly, some of the real believers of change in APC actually came from PDP namely; Mallam Nasir El Rufai and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. The latter has already indicated beyond reasonable doubt in Kano that he is a real progressive. Sometimes it is not even about the party one belongs to. I also wish to use this medium to reiterate that we all have our shortcomings and therefore express that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the father of progressive politics in Nigeria and wether you like him or not a large extent of the APC campaigns used Lagos as a model and Lagos of today was possible under the coordination of the “Jagaban”. By the way, I know Asiwaju must have learnt through life to correct his past mistakes like every other intelligent person like him will do. No bad person will pursue such excellence for his place, therefore I also recognize that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his political clan are actual believers of change.
Having said all these, my warning goes to those who advocate for the PDP agenda in APC. They should understand that it’s not a lie that Nigerians are very much aware now and are going to document all that they will be doing within the next four years when the judgement time will come. This means that they have to have a rethink and understand that the change they rode under to win the elections must be actualized or else? But if they don’t wish to understand this as well, then it’s ok we shall meet in 2019. As for GMB and his real change advocates, I wish to tell them that as long as they continue to show some progressiveness in the discharge of their duties, Nigerians will support them to the fullest because such steps will never be hidden. I also expect them to manage the continuity (PDP way) advocates by showing good leadership examples. As for those who insist in continuing with the PDP way, let GMB leave them with us the masses and I can tell you we are equal to the task of treating their myopia and stupidity.
Finally, let us all understand that we have voted for change and change we must. Get some skills and use your brains to initiate how you can get into the formulation and/or execution of policies for the betterment of all.
God Bless Nigeria!
