The Consequence Of Nicknaming President Buhari “Baba Go Slow” By The PDP- MM, Firdausi
“Never pock your neighbours eyes, when you have lots of dirts in yours”. Recall the run up to the 2015 General Elections, and the effort by the Gen. Abdulsami Abubakar’s Peace Committee, between the then two strong Presidential contestants of All Progressive Congress APC and People Democratic Party PDP; General Muhammadu Buhari and Goodluck Ebele Jonathan respectively. Nigerians saw with kin interest how a “Peace Accord” was signed by both parties, and content of which relates to avoiding hate speeches against one another, as well as accepting the outcome of the elections without fermenting crisis, using party loyalist at the end of the day.
Peradventure, the much talked about “Peace Accord” became a “Hate Speech Accord”, when the PDP and GEJ took to media houses to defame the person of GMB. A man who has sacrificed his comfort over the years, just to build an image for himself. One who severed himself from looting Nigeria, having served in various capacities to include; Governor, Minister (Federal Commissioner), Military Head of State of the FRN and Chairman of PTF. If I may ask, who among Nigerians today can boost of holding any of these juicy positions, yet was disciplined enough not to dip their hands into public coffers. Thus, having Oil Well, Properties, Estates and many more. I stand to be corrected that from Independence of Nigeria in 1960 to date, I have not found any. Rather, except that the individual had not gotten the opportunity, else they will always soil their hands.
In spite of all of these, some Nigerians were so wrongly judgemental on the person of GMB, running up to the 2015 Elections. So much so that, he was named a dictator and a dictatorial ruler by his foes. Despite the fact that some of us have kept on explaining and explaining to Nigerians, that this man GMB was never pretending and that he is who he says he is without any iota of deceit or deception. All proved abortive to no avail. Some Nigerians till date failed to understand that even the 1983 Military Coup d’ Etat, was never planned and executed by GMB. Yet, the architect of that Coup, never came out to speak to make Nigerians hear from the horses’ mouth. But expressly and candid, that same Coup was masterminded by Gen. Ibrahim Babangida and his league of bad guys in the then Military. According to an interview with IBB, after the declaration of GMB as the winner of the 2015 Presidential Election, he asserts that “When we discovered that the then Civilian Government of Alh. Shehu Shagari was very corrupt and indiscipline was everywhere, we decided to seize power from them, and in order to gain acceptance and legitimacy, we called on Gen. Muhammadu Buhari to lead the Military Government as the Head of State”. I believe some people will wonder, if really that GMB was not in support of that Coup, why then did he accept to be part of a government that toppled a democratic system. The answer to this is very simple, GMB as at then believes the Civilian Government was actually corrupt and indiscipline, but IBB has said if GMB doesn’t accept, he will take over. So, being the most senior and knowing fully well that IBB’s hands was also dirty, GMB decided to step in. But things turned sour, after taking over and the same GMB decided to pick-up IBB for indulgence in drug dealings, which GMB saw as inimical to our Laws and Culture. And as such, IBB decided to oust GMB in 1985.
However, this goes to show the nature and character of GMB when it comes to the issue of fighting Corruption and Indiscipline. Irrespective of anyone being his financier or close associates, do not allow anything dirty to come in between you and GMB cum Nigeria, else you have yourself to blame as he will never recall that you played any role of doing him any good or favour. That is the extent of GMB’s aversion for impunity and corruption.
Going by all of these, let us focus on the said Peace Accord which was designed to give both GEJ and GMB an understanding, even after the 2015 Elections. Though, we know that in one way or the other, the party supporters of these two personalities may have breached that accord, but one of them went too far with the Hate Speeches and Media Advertorials made to libel GMB. To make matters worst, the insult to GMB was even extended to his immediate family, which became more of making him an “Evil Genius”.
With kin interest, many Nigerians began to doubt and refrain their trust in GMB, into believing the derogatory comments and media advertorials against his person. Even as other Nigerians see it on the contrary, and rather believed that not just hate speeches, they should call GMB a “Devil” their unalloyed support remains with him till Nigeria is salvaged. Gradually, the hate speeches started becoming a miracle of how Jesus Christ turned water to wine. A situation where, more Nigerians began to understand that all were mere smear campaign, just to crucify GMB and create more enmity for him. All with the hope that the looters of Nigeria funds and resources would be spared, not under GMB.
Today, Nigerians have accepted that the man GMB now PMB, is the only one who can bring back the glory of our country Nigeria. Therefore, the devil we know is better than the Angel we do not know. That is why, with the campaign promises made by GMB, Nigerians now hold him to his words, hence the high expectations to deliver to the Nigerian citizens.
Since the assumption of the seat of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, after the handing over from Ex-President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan on 29th May 2015, Nigerians have been asking questions as to where the promises made by President Muhammadu Buhari are. This, without recourse to the fact that there was about Sixteen Years of misrule and impunity under the PDP, which requires a total clean up in order to avoid building a New Nigeria on a wrong foundation akin to building a house. And that is what PMB had been doing, along side planning and strategizing in order not to fail Nigerians, as he has always being a man of his words.
Believing that it was only Nigerian electorate who voted en masse for PMB, that are questioning the delay in actions by the President, the PDP who are guilty of messing the country over this span of years also took to the media to nickname PMB as “Baba Go Slow”. The moment some of us noticed this on the social media, we began to wonder how the destroyers would have the guts to speak, when the builder is trying to fix their mess. This is just a paradox of life, where “the Child is the Father to the Man”. Well, we expected that now as an Opposition Party, the PDP should rather be calm and learn from how to checkmate the activities of a governing party. Such that after a year, they may begin to lambast the government of the day for not doing enough. Instead, the PDP succeeded in pushing PMB to really do the work that Nigerians voted him for, that is the fight against Corruption and Indiscipline. If we look at the scene before this time, you will understand that PMB was trying to find a way to reduce anything that will indict the former President GEJ, owing to his statesmanship of conceding defeat in the just concluded 2015 Election. Rather than keep calm and observe from the background, the PDP have ignited the real PMB into telling Nigerians that he was only trying to avoid being a persecutor and a witch-hunt, despite the almost empty treasury which the GEJ’s administration left for him.
With the change of game, PMB has swung into action after days of reminiscence on how to pilot the ship Nigeria, without opening the can of worms. Now, we hear of sacks such as the Accountant General of the Federation, Director General of DSS, Non-Carrier Ambassadors, Service Chiefs, Board of MDAs, Director General NIMASA, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and others. The PDP is now complaining on some of these efforts by PMB, in trying to sanitise the decayed Nigeria system. Were they expecting PMB to continue with all the Heads of these bodies, after the same PDP had politicised them from their professionalism. Then someone here must be deranged!
This goes to show that, the PDP is expecting PMB to admit he is the nickname they gave him. With the arrest of former National Security Adviser to GEJ; Sambo Dasuki, the government of PMB has just hit the ground rolling on a lead to start getting back all the looted funds under GEJ. Others will follow subsequently, including Okonjo Iweala, Diezani Allison, amongst others. I see no reason why the PDP should complain, except if they are affirming to Nigerians that they actually looted the country with impunity. And that PMB should not do anything to recover all the funds, despite glaring cases of how those funds were diverted. We want to tell the PDP that yes, PMB will “Arrest Boko Haram” like they had suggested, but the battle starts with how funds to fight the insurgent group in the past was stolen by their men. Else Nigeria wouldn’t have still been in this mess called rag-tag Boko Haram. So, you now agree that Baba Go Slow, is now “Baba Do Slow” in dealing with the damage done by PDP and it’s Office holders for 16years, in order not to get caught up.
God bless President Muhammadu Buhari and the entire people of Nigeria, as we join hands to make Nigeria great again.
