Terrorists In Failed Suicide Attack In Maiduguri Mosque Blew Themselves Up
The Borno State Police Command has confirmed a failed suicide attack at Sulemanti mosque in Maiduguri, the state capital.
The bombers allegedly blew themselves up near the mosque early yesterday.
Police spokesman Victor Isuku said the suspects went to the mosque strapped with Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), but the IEDs were detonated, killing them in the process. A midnight Ramadan prayer was on at that time.
He added that the Police Explosives Ordinance Department (EOD) had been deployed to the scene.
A Joint Task Force (JTF) member, Bukar Shehu, told The Nation that the bombers were intercepted near a mosque premises under a tree before blowing themselves up.
“The people ran away while we challenged the suspects on their mission to the mosque, before the explosive exploded.
“It was God that saved us. One of us was and another women were injured . She has been taken to a clinic for treatment,” Shehu said.
It is not clear how the suspects sneaked into Maiduguri. Meanwhile, the mosque has been condoned off to prevent further attacks.
