Tambuwal To Announce His Defection To APC On The Floor Of The House

Barring last minutes change of mind, Speaker of the House of Reps Aminu Waziri Tambuwal will tomorrow, Tuesday, announce his defection from the ruling PDP to the main opposition party, APC on the floor of the House. The move is to enable the Speaker seek nomination and contest the governorship seat of his home state, Sokoto on the platform of the APC. He has been angling for the opposition party’s presidential ticket but the entry of heavyweights like former Head of state, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar appears to have blocked his chances in the party.

Findings reveal that Tambuwal had mobilized sufficient number of members in the House to resist moves by the PDP which has simple majority in the House to have him vacate his leadership of the Green Chamber.

It was gathered that part of the game plan by Tambuwal and his supporters will be to close the House and ask members to return to their constituencies for electioneering campaigns. This is to make it practically difficult for the PDP to get the Speaker impeached. “Tambuwal may decide to step down on his own after he must have won the Sokoto governorship election in February”, a source close to him told iReports-ng.com

The source further reveal that members have made up their mind that whenever Tambuwal vacates the Speakership, they will elect a Speaker of their choice to frustrate the ambition of House leader, Mulikat Akande to emerge. Akande has been the preferred candidate of the PDP for the job but was rejected by majority votes who elected Tambuwal as Speaker in 2011.
