Trump Recognizes Jerusalem As Israel’s Capital

United States President, Donald Trump, has on Wednesday, formally recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

Trump in remarks at the White House, said: “It is time to officially recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.”

Trump also announced plans to build a new American embassy in Jerusalem. The current U.S. embassy is located in Tel Aviv.

Trump acknowledged that his decision was driven by a political campaign pledge, saying that “while previous presidents have made this a major campaign promise, they failed to deliver. Today, I am delivering.”

The president further added that his decision “is not intended in any way” to hamper a lasting peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians. He also said the United States would “support a two state solution if agreed to by both sides.”
