Tinubu Slams Sahara Reporters, Says ‘Ajimobi And I Are Partners’

National leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has denied a false report by SaharaReporters that he (Tinubu) was moving to ban Governor Abiola Ajimobi from leading APC campaigns in Oyo because of his intervention in the state.

The National Leader, in a statement yesterday by his Media Adviser, Tunde Rahman, said himself and Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State are partners, not rivals and that his intervention in Oyo APC is to engender genuine reconciliation and not to hide or supplant the governor.

Recall that Tinubu recently held discussions with some notable leaders in Oyo State, and engineered the return of former governor Adebayo Alao-Akala back to the party’s fold.

He described the report by the online medium as another excursion into falsehood. But he added: “This report goes beyond a lie. It is a vindictive attempt to sow discord because the writer is angered by the APC’s success in the presidential election. Thus, the writer has cast truth aside in his angry desire to inflict some kind of electoral wound on the APC.”

The statement reads: “SaharaReporters seems unable to mend its ways. Instead of trying to publish what is fair and accurate, it rather grows its tales from seedlings of untruth and calumny. This online newspaper no longer bothers to offer the pretense of seeking the truth. For SaharaReporters, whatever is sensational must be true and whatever is true must be sensational. The real truth is that SaharaReporters no longer cares if its reportage is right. SaharaReporters just cares that it is widely read. It dare not allow veracity to hamper its business model. This is a disservice to ethical journalism which honors truthful, accurate reporting.

“The report titled: “Tinubu Bans Ajimobi from Appearing at APC Governorship Rallies” is another of SaharaReporters’ excursions into falsehood. The report claims that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu somehow has banned Governor Abiola Ajimobi from attending APC campaigns for Saturday’s governorship election in Oyo State.

“This report goes beyond a lie. It is a vindictive attempt to sow discord because the writer is angered by the APC’s success in the presidential election. Thus, the writer has cast truth aside in his angry desire to inflict some kind of electoral wound on the APC. However, the writer should refrain from this path of falsehood. It would be better for the writer to come to grips with reality and to accept the fact of the APC presidential victory and the likelihood of APC victories in most governorship elections, including that of Oyo.

“The mischief that SaharaReporters cites is not between Tinubu and Ajimobi. It is solely in the mind of SaharaReporters. By its unsubstantiated report, the medium seeks to set brother against brother. Asiwaju and Governor Ajimobi have been political brothers and allies for a long time. Their friendship existed long before SaharaReporters came to the scene and will endure long after this self-diminishing online site is no more.

“Moreover, Governor Ajimobi has been an excellent governor and a faithful member of the APC. He has brought progress to the state and in serving two consecutive terms, Ajimobi made history in Oyo. He is instrumental to anything the APC can achieve in Oyo. The truth is that Asiwaju is not trying to supplant or hide the governor. Instead, Asiwaju is lending his support to the governor’s and APC’s efforts in the state. They are partners not rivals.

“As such, he has held strategic meetings with some notable groups and important individuals. The heart of the discussions was the need for all to come together to achieve victory for APC in the March 9 governorship poll. At no time did the issue of banning anybody, talk less of Governor Ajimobi, enter into the discussions. We want and need Governor Ajimobi to be a visible figure at the forefront of this campaign during these final decisive days. He will prove pivotal to our hope for victory in the state.

“SaharaReporters betrayed its abject bias with this report. It makes absolutely no sense to even try to stop a sitting governor from campaigning in that governor’s state. Such a move would only create enmity and hinder, not help a campaign. For SaharaReporters to claim this is to claim that Asiwaju is a political novice. Asiwaju has never barred anyone from participating in a campaign. Why would he now start with Ajimobi in Ajimobi’s own state?

“In addition to not having such a negative inclination, Asiwaju wields no such power and has no desire to have such power. Ajimobi is a sitting governor who can travel within his state as he pleases. Who can dare stop him? We want him in and at the rallies. Asiwaju’s intervention in Oyo was to engender genuine reconciliation. To exclude this good and able governor would have aborted this mission before it started.

“Asiwaju views Governor Ajimobi as highly disciplined and a committed and respected party leader, unlike some others who have no respect for party supremacy. The relationship between them remains solid and loyal. And one hundred false reports by one hundred SaharaReporters cannot change that reality”.

Buhari’s Minister Adebayo Shittu Disassociate Self From Oyo APC Guber Candidate

Ahead of the 2019 general elections, Minister of Communication, Mr Adebayo Shittu, has distanced himself from supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in  Oyo State candidate, Mr Adebayo Adelabu.

Shittu, who spoke to reporters in Abuja, disclosed that his resolve to approach the court to seek justice on his disqualification from contesting the primary election did not amount to indulging in anti-party activities.

It would be recalled that the Comrade Adams Oshiomhole-led national working committee (NWC) had on the eve of the primaries disqualified Shittu on the pretext that he did not participate in the mandatory national youths service corps (NYSC) scheme.

According to him: “Before you talk of reconciliation you must first talk of restitution. If you violate somebody’s rights, or you seize somebody’s property and you are found out, instead of you to deliver what you had stolen you are now talking of reconciliation. I have is akin o saying that you must have peace even if there is no justice.

“As for me I don’t recognize the candidate of APC, I am in court and I am sure that I would triumph over those who were not as intelligent in foisting a candidate on the party.

“With all sense of humility I have passed the stage where any party would threaten me. I am in court and if the party is sure that it has a better basis for what they have done, I let us go and meet in court. You don’t start threatening I who feel unfairly treated thinking you can get me out of the justice system.”

Shittu expressed optimism that he would triumph over the antics of his adversaries and that it was unfortunate that Adelabu was foisted by Governor Abiola Ajimobi as the governorship candidate of the party barely two months after joining the party.

FG Distributes Tomato Seeds To Oyo Farmers

The Federal Government through the Raw Material Research and Development Council (RMRDC) on Monday distributed improved tomato seeds to vegetable farmers in Oyo State.

The Director-General of RMRDC, Dr Hussaini Ibrahim, the major pillar of the Federal Government’s Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) was industrial development and manufacturing through the processing of local raw materials.

Mr Ibrahim, who stated this at the event in Ibadan, explained that tomato, being a strategic crop, was one of the selected commodities to drive this policy thrust.

According to him, the objective was to process tomato into paste and other value-added products.

Dr. Ibrahim, represented by the council’s Assistant Director (Investment), Mr John Obekpa, said tomato was targeted by the policy even as importation of non-triple concentrate tomato paste was discouraged.

He explained that the policy had stimulated the establishment of new tomato processing plants as well as the resuscitation of some hitherto comatose tomato concentrating plants.

The Director General said that in order for the plants to function at optimal capacity and competitively satisfy the demand for table use, three million metric tons of quality processing grade tomato fruits would be required.

Dr. Ibrahim said that it was imperative that access to improved seeds should be guaranteed, in addition to adopting global agronomic best practices in production and handling.

He further disclosed that in furtherance of its commitment to developing tomato value chain, vegetable farmers in Oyo and other states had been selected to benefit in 2018.

The RMRDC Coordinator in Oyo State, Mrs Olufolake Ishiola, expressed delight that the council’s activity was in consonance with the aspiration of developing the industrial sector through the provision of raw materials.

She said the council would monitor the project and ensure that farmers obtain good grade tomato seeds that would serve as raw materials for industries.

Ajimobi Celebrates Return Of Dapchi Girls, Urges Nigerians To Pray For Other Captives

Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, has celebrated with parents of the 104 Dapchi schoolgirls who were released from the captivity of Boko Haram insurgents on Wednesday.

He has also urged Nigerians to pray for parents of the five deceased students, as well as other girls from Chibok who are still in captivity.

His message was contained in a statement signed by his Special Adviser, Communication and Strategy, Mr Bolaji Tunji Ajimobi on Friday.

The statement partly read: “At a time like this, all hands must be on deck. This is not the time to apportion blames or call the intelligence gathering and combat-readiness of our security agencies to question. These are indeed trying times for the country.

“I know the trauma that the kidnapped young girls must have gone through while under captivity, but I rejoice with them now that they are back with us. And as a parent, I can imagine the agony of their parents, especially those who lost their adorable ones to the incident.

“While congratulating the parents of the 104 girls recently reunited with their parents, I solicit prayers and empathy for the parents of the five deceased children for God to comfort them and wipe away their tears.

“I commend the Federal Government and President Muhammadu Buhari for rising to the occasion. With fervent and sustained prayers, I’m confident that the Chibok girls still being held by the Boko Haram will also breathe the air of freedom soon.”

Ajimobi Has Done Well And I Must Say It – Olubadan

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji, on Thursday said that the Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, has brought development to the state upon his assumption as Chief Executive of the State.

Olubadan said this at a meeting chaired by Governor Ajimobu with other monarchs in the state to brief them about his feats and his future plans to sustain his administration’s transformation agenda.

The Olubadan said that he praised the governor for his unrelenting efforts to bring development to the state.

He said, “Yoruba don’t appreciate themselves except to abuse and criticise but when someone has done well, we must say it. I am talking about what I have seen so far. In view of this, I would have loved him to go for another term if not that the constitution does not allow it.

“The governor has performed very well. He has recorded unprecedented achievements worthy of commendation. This is the only way to spur him into greater performance for the benefit of the whole state.”

In his speech, the Alaafin said the governor should be commended for all he had achieved since the beginning of his administration in spite of the dwindling allocations from the Federation Account and paltry internally-generated revenue.

“We can only commend you for all you have been able to achieve in the last seven years. We are very impressed with your performance. The only thing you are not telling us is where you have been getting the money to do all the projects. I have had to engage you in private discussions on this recently to ask how you source the money you have been using to execute the projects since you are not printing money,” said the monarch.

Ajimobi, in his address said that the meeting was borne out of the need for him to carry the royal fathers along about the programmes and policies of his administration, giving their position as the custodian of culture and tradition and the closest to the people.

He said, “I have called this meeting to ensure that there is constant dialogue with you, our royal fathers and to intimate you with our developmental plans and goals. It is also to discuss our efforts so far at repositioning the state and to see what our state will be like in the next 25 years.

“I am happy to announce to you that Oyo State has been described as one of the safest states in Nigeria. We will therefore not want anything that will disrupt the pervading peace which we have been enjoying all these years.”

Also at the meeting was the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi; Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba Rafiu Adekunle; Eleruwa of Eruwa, Oba Samuel Adegbola; Onpetu of Ijeru, Oba Sunday Popoola; and the representative of Soun of Ogbomoso, the Aare Ago of Ogbomoso land, Chief Sobalaje Otolorin.

Recall that the monarch, who has been engulfed in a feud with the governor over the review of the Olubadan Chieftaincy Declaration and the installation of 21 new kings in Ibadan by Ajimobi, said this during a meeting with the governor in Ibadan.
