Offa Robbery: Lai Mohammed Releases Alleged Evidences On Saraki’s Lies

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has said that he is presenting to the public available evidences of how the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, lied that he donated N10 million to the victims of Offa bank robbery.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday, the minister said he is presenting to the public both the unedited version of a live radio interview as well as the doctored, re-broadcast version on the donated fund to show Saraki’s disdain for truth.

Specifically, the minister said that in the live radio interview on Christmas Day Saraki said he donated the N10 million to the robbery victims in Offa.

However, it was doctored before it was re-broadcast to remove any reference to the claimed donation of N10 million to victims of the armed robbery.

Mohammed said he is releasing the evidence for Nigerians to see the extent to which “some leaders can go to deceive the people and peddle lies just to shore up their dwindling fortunes”.

”In the unedited live version, Dr Saraki, speaking in Yoruba, said categorically that he donated N10 million when he visited Offa to commiserate with the victims of the armed robbery.

“He claimed he is donating N10 million, whereas about N7 million was stolen from the vaults of the banks that were robbed during the attack.

”However, the version for re-broadcast did not contain any reference to the Offa robbery.

‘Whereas they claimed to have re-broadcast the interview due to popular demand, the truth is that they decided to re-air it without the claim of N10 million donation due to the widespread derision that greeted that phantom claim.

“These people have a chronic disdain for the truth,” he said.

Mohammed challenged the Senate President to answer three critical questions or learn to keep his peace:

“The first one is did he not say, during the live interview, that the money in the vault was N7 million and that he dropped N10 million when he went to Offa on a condolence visit?

” The second question is did he really drop any money on that occasion?

“And the third, did he or did he not doctor the original broadcast?”

The minister said while he would not want to exchange words with Saraki on who is truly on ground in Kwraa, it is important to let him know that six weeks from now, the people of Kwara will answer that question.

”On Nov. 17 2018, the people of Kwara gave a hint of their determination to sack the rapacious leaders who have dominated their lives when they voted for the APC in the by-election for the Ekiti/Isin/Irepodun/Oke-Ero federal constituency.

” That crushing defeat so devastated the political warlords, who hitherto claimed
invincibility, that they started doing what they have never done before: going from ward to ward to campaign!

”Unfortunately, the game is up for them, as they will soon learn, because the people have resolved that ‘O to ge’ (enough is enough). In the meantime, they are free to continue to revel in self-deceit,” the Minister said.

Stop Dancing On The Graves Of Offa Robbery Victims, Minister Warns Saraki

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has
warned the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, to stop dancing on the
graves of the innocent souls who died in the April 5, 2018 armed
robbery attack in Offa.

In a statement issued in Lagos on Monday by his media aide, Mr. Segun
Adeyemi, the Minister repeated his earlier warning against playing
politics with the unfortunate incident, after Dr. Saraki said in a
radio interview that he donated 10 million Naira when he visited Offa
to commiserate with the people in the aftermath of the robbery, even
when (he said) the amount that was stolen from the robbed banks’
vaults was 7 million Naira.

The Minister said the overly aggressive and crude response by Dr.
Saraki to that warning has shown that he is not ready to heed the
admonition, hence the need to re-state it, and to condemn any attempt
to denominate human lives in Naira and Kobo.

Alhaji Mohammed said that in the wake of his warning, the apparently
embarrassing radio interview was hurriedly edited to remove all
references to the Offa robbery and then re-aired across Kwara state.

”Instead of stopping at that, which in itself constitutes an
acceptance of wrong-doing, Dr. Saraki went ahead to hurl insults at
me, even when I have been largely restrained in issuing my earlier
warning. Had I not been restrained, I would have gone ahead to divulge
what actually transpired.

”For example, the claim by Dr. Saraki that he donated 10 million
Naira to care for the victims of the Offa robbery is patently false.
He did not! The 10 million he referred to was donated when the Offa
market got burnt, and it was made in Ilorin, not Offa. When Dr Saraki
visited Offa to commiserate with the community in the aftermath of the
robbery, he did not donate a dime! I challenge him to prove me wrong.

”But with politics in the air, the truth becomes the first casualty.
Realizing that he goofed, Dr. Bukola apparently caused the radio
interview in question to be edited to remove the donation reference,
and then re-aired. Is it not an irony that the people who engaged
in this egregious act of dishonesty are the same ones calling others
names?” the Minister queried.

He said he will continue to steer the debate on the political
developments in Kwara State to issues rather than exchange of personal
insults, which he has always been averse to.

”The people of Kwara, who are bone-tired of the long years of
‘bolekaja’ governance in the state, are all saying in one voice, ‘O to
ge’ (enough is enough), and will soon have the opportunity to express
their frustration with their votes,” the Minister said.

Offa Robbery: CSOs Demand Saraki’s Resignation

Following alleged link with suspects arrested by the Nigerian Police Force in connection with the Offa Bank robbery in, kwara State, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) have demanded the immediate resignation of Senate President, Bukola Saraki from office.

Addressing reporters in Abuja, convener of Coalition of Civil Society for Good Governance and Democracy ,Alhaji Adamu Kabiru, challenged the  Senate to impeach Saraki should he refuse to resign.

Kabiru said:”for Dr Saraki to threaten President Buhari with impeachment only because the police rightly invited him is the height of arrogance,  and abuse of office and disrespect for the rule of law.

“It is, therefore, our considered view that the President of the Senate be impeached immediately and until this done, he will continue to hold to ransom the entire country and her development.

“We are gathered here to affirm that for good governance and democracy to thrive,  Saraki must excuse the Senate as their president and face his multiple criminal cases ranging from, financial crimes, to abuse of office,  non- declaration of assets and sponsorship of militia in Kwara State.

President of Concerned Citizens of Offa Community, Mr.Tunde Yusuf and the Secretary, Segun Balogun, in a statement said the Olofa and ODU were wrong to have absolved Saraki at a time the police are still investigating allegations made against him by some of the Offa robbery suspects.

“Absolving Dr Bukola Saraki of any accessory to crime of this nature is not only an attempt to preempt,  out of place, but a self-serving  move to distract the attention of the security agencies,” they said.

Similary, a group known as Yaman Peace Frontier (YPF) yesterday backed the IGP for his level of investigation on the Offa robber saga.

Converner of YPF Olawale Gbadeyan spoke this in Ilorin, the state capital at the inauguration of the association.

He said:“We are happy about the level of investigation being carried out by the Inspector General of Police (IGP). We are happy that they are doing it in a proper way and we are in support of the IGP.

“We want him to do a full and thorough investigation in the Offa robbery saga.

“ We also pray for full persecution of whosoever engaged in the robbery. Our people were killed during the incident.”

Offa Residents Protest Against Saraki Over Alleged Involvement In Robbery Case

Residents of Offa in the Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State on Tuesday, staged a protest against Senate President Bukola Saraki, over an alleged link to the April 5 robberies in the state that left about 35 people dead including a pregnant woman and some police officers.

The Police had also invited the Senate President following the confession of the five principal suspects.

Spokesperson for the Association of Concerned Offa Indigenes Home and Abroad, Muyideen Babalola, in a speech titled, ‘The wind has blown, the back of the fowl has been exposed,’ said Saraki’s invitation by the police was an answer to their prayers.

He said, “The obnoxious act of April 5, 2018, when armed robbers came to Offa, killing over 50 of our dear sons and daughters and some police officers, has taken a toll on us.

“In whatever we do, our past has a way of catching up with us like a shadow. God has answered our prayers in Offa. Our cries have been heard.”

Another leader of the group, Mr Femi Whyte, said they were marching for justice, adding that the blood of  the dead was crying for revenge.

Whyte said, “Since April 5 that the robbers attacked Offa… economic activities of the community have been adversely affected, as banks have remained closed. Our people are being subjected to the pain of travelling to other towns to access money.

“Due to the unrelenting efforts of the Nigeria Police Force… the miscreants have been nabbed… and in the course of police investigation, some top politicians were mentioned to be remotely connected with the robbery.

“But to our dismay and sadness, these politicians mobilised some political jobbers to protest in their favour to jeopardise the ongoing investigation by the Nigeria police.

“It is pertinent to state here without any ambiguity that Offa people are totally against the shameless rally that took place in Offa yesterday (Monday).”

He said all well-meaning sons and daughters of Offa were behind the steps being taken by the police to get to the root of the matter.

He said, “We completely dissociate ourselves from the sponsored rally.

“The souls of the victims are crying for justice. We are waiting for justice to be done. In Offa, we cherish justice, equity and fairnes.”
