Lagos Building Collapse: LASEMA Says Over 40 Victims Rescued

The General Manager of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Mr. Adesina Tiamiyu, has said more than 40 people have surviced yesterday’s collapse building in Lagos.

Briefing newsmen at the site of the disaster, Mr. Tiamiyu disputed the rumours that the collapsed building housed over one hundred pupils.

According to him, that could not have been true, noting that he has official record and would release it soon.

On recurrence of similar incidents in the state , Mr. Tiamiyu said his agency cannot pull down people’s houses that are designated weak but would work with  agencies in charge if they come up with certified reports of such buildings.Concerning the number of casualties so far, Mr. Tiamiyu said though there are many casualties recorded since yesterday with one more body recovered from the debris at 3 am this morning, he would not want to put a figure on the total number until he hears from the state ministry of health which is in charge of the hospitals.
