Lagos APC Senatorial Primaries: Ashafa Urges Oshinowo To Embrace Party’s Decision

Our attention has been drawn to a statement attributed to one of the initial aspirants for the Lagos East Senatorial District primaries scheduled to take place on Wednesday, 3rd October 2018 in the person of Hon. Bayo Oshinowo, as well as an audio message disparaging and refuting the list of cleared candidates for the Senatorial Primaries Nationwide as released by our party the All Progressives Congress on Tuesday, 2nd October 2018.

Following the list released by the party wherein the said aspirant was screened out and disqualified, Hon. Bayo Oshinowo has unleashed a media attack on the veracity of the list as officially communicated by the party in order to mislead, misinform and confuse the very resolute members of the party in Lagos East Senatorial District by falsely claiming to have been cleared as well.

For the avoidance of doubt, Hon. Oshinowo was not cleared to contest by the National Working Committee of the Party which unequivocally allows Senator Gbenga Ashafa and indeed his colleagues in the incumbent Senate to return unopposed.

It is most important to state that the Supremacy of the Party is sacrosanct as stipulated in Article 2 of our Party.

We hereby use this medium to assure our teeming supporters and constituents that the position of the leadership and highest organ of the party the National Working Committee to the effect that only the three current serving Senators under the platform of the APC in the Distinguished persons of Senators Oluremi Tinubu OON, Solomon Olamilekan and Gbenga Ashafa have been cleared to return unopposed as the Senatorial Candidates for our party in the forthcoming 2019 general elections.

Furthermore, the activities of Hon. Oshinowo have shown a deep disregard for the constituted authority of our Party. It equally bellies a clear lack of appreciation of the practices and processes of our great party, as the screening and clearance process is a nationwide activity and not with particular interest to Lagos.

His activities equally reveal a departure from the school of thought of our National Leader Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in which we are all enjoined to adhere to the supremacy of the party.

In conclusion, we express our unreserved gratitude to our National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu a true democrat and a firm believer in excellence in public service, the leadership of our party both at the National and State levels, our teeming supporters and constituents who have trooped our to their various wards to affirm their trust in Senator Gbenga Ashafa’s candidature.

Vice President Osinbajo Kicks Against Cancellation Of Lagos Guber Primary

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has kicked against the cancellation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Lagos governorship primary held on 2 October.

The APC governorship primary which held across the state on Tuesday was cancelled by the National Working Committee (NWC).

APC NWC led by Clement Ebri insisted that only a secret ballot voting system will be recognised in the primary between incumbent Lagos governor, Akinwunmi Ambode and contender Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Reacting to the cancellation, VP Osinbajo said the results should be accepted if the process was free and fair.

According to a source close to the Presidency, “Osinbajo is calling on State and National APC leaders to work together and ensure that today’s voting in Lagos should be honored as long as it is free and fair.

The source revealed that “there has been a lot of confusion about the election especially after APC national team released a statement that the voting did not follow agreed guidelines”.

However before this, results of the voting had been widespread all over the social media from ward to ward.

Other sources close to APC headquarters told Chronicle NG  that the VP had been advising that the best thing in the circumstances is to honor the polls except there is compelling evidence of irregularities and violation of electoral laws.

Lagos APYF Expresses Support For Tinubu, Sanwoolu, APC

The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Youth Forum (APYF), the most vibrant youth group of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), wishes to affirm its support for the Lagos APC and the party’s executives.

Over the years, Lagos State has been addressed as an economically viable state and a crucial catalyst for economic turnaround of the country as a whole, No wonder it ranks the fifth largest economy in Africa; thanks to the excellent Master Plan crafted by our National leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who put aside his personal interests, and alongside, some of the best minds in this country, birthed a plan for economic development that has daily improved the lives of Lagosians.

An example of the implementation of this Master Plan in other states was when the present National Chairman of our great party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole emerged as the Governor of Edo State and alluded to the fact that he needed to learn how Lagos was getting it right and then replicate same in Edo.

Comrade Oshiomhole came over to Lagos with his core team to understudy the Lagos developmental model. And this worked well in Edo.

Today, Lagos State, through the visionary leadership of Asiwaju Tinubu, and a corps of dedicated and patriotic Lagosians, has produced the present Vice President of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, (SAN); Former Lagos State Governor and Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN); Dr. Babatunde Fowler, Chairman of Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS); Mr. Wale Edun, former Lagos Commissioner for Finance, and a host of others. Lagos is working, we believe in the structure that has produced these leaders, and we believe in this structure to deliver a gubernatorial candidate for the party in tomorrow’s primaries, a candidate who understands the blueprint of the Master Plan conceived and implemented by his predecessors, and eager ready to return Lagos to the finest path which it has strayed from in the last three years. And we trust that in 2019, Lagosians will come out en masse to support the APC’s candidate as we continue to deliver on the great example of good governance that Lagos exemplifies.

2019: Lagos APC Begins Distribution Of Identity Cards To Members

Ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries election in Lagos State, the party, yesterday commenced the distribution of identification cards to its members.

The state chairman of the party, Alhaji Tunde Balogun, led other executive members to distribute the cards at the ACME Road secretariat of the party in Ikeja.

The cards were distributed to members through selected party leaders across the different councils in the state.

Addressing the selected party leaders, Balogun said the move  was to enable members participate in the governorship and subsequent primaries.

He said no fewer than 1.7 million cards were issued based on the data of members.

He appealed  to the representatives to ensure the cards were delivered to registered members in their respective areas immediately, saying: ”We have carefully selected you because of your good records in your areas and because we believe you can deliver in getting these cards across to our members .

“I implore you to do your best in delivering on this assignment so that our members can get their cards before the governorship primary on Sunday.”

Balogun directed them to distribute the cards to identified party members immediately in the presence of their council chairmen and council party chairmen in their respective areas.

He said the distribution must also be done in the presence of the state executive members representing each of the 20 constitutionally-recognised councils.

The chairman said that the party arrived at the arrangement to ensure that cards do not fall into the wrong hands.

Balogun warned that for no reason should the cards be given to the wrong people and urged the leaders to return unclaimed cards to the secretariat.

He added: ”Please make sure you check the photographs on the cards before giving them out.

“We do not want a situation where these cards get to the wrong hands. In case you cannot get the owners of some of the cards, please return them to the secretariat; we will know what to do.

“And for some of you who cannot get all the cards because of bulkiness, please do come tomorrow, as that is the deadline for distribution.”

Lagos Guber: Tinubu, Ambode Set For Showdown

With less than 24 hours to the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election in Lagos State to choose candidate for the 2019 gubernatorial election, the incumbent Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, has vowed not to step down from the guber race.

At a meeting of leaders of the APC, at the Bourdillon, Ikoyi home of the party’s National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the governor was reportedly said to have listed his achievements to convince the party leaders on why he should be given the party’s ticket, but his plea fell on deaf ears.

“Ambode was told in plain terms that the party will not support his second term ambition and as such should step down for the candidate the party members are clamouring for. But throughout the whole discussion and till the meeting ended, the governor stood his ground, explaining why he must run and that he will run if APC desires to win the state.

“He was busy speaking grammar when no single member at the meeting supported him. We wish him luck”, a source said.

The meeting however ended with a directive to the State Working Committee of the party to address a press conference today, Saturday at the party’s secretariat on Acme road, Ikeja where the preferred governorship candidate Jide Sanwo-Olu and his running mate, Femi Hamzat will be officially presented to party members to vote for at the governorship primaries scheduled for tomorrow, Sunday.

A source close to the governor however said that, “Tinubu and his men are jokers, if they fail to present Ambode for second term, they will lose Lagos like they lost Osun, forget the eventual manipulation of the final result.”

“Ambode is the party’s poster boy, and that’s why President Buhari asked the SGF, Boss Mustapha to wade into the Lagos ticket issue but if they ignore even the president’s intervention, they will be doomed like Osun. Nigerians will see that Tinubu is overrated as has shown in Osun. You can see that the president had to send Fayemi, Oshiomhole and others to step into the Osun election, the presidential emissaries didn’t go to meet Tinubu and Aregbesola who were in Osogbo before they went straight to meet Omisore in Ile-Ife, that shows how less they regard him”, the source added.

2019: Ambode Plans To Go Down With 57 Council Chairmen, Keeps Their Allocation Under Lock

Fifty seven Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas Chairmen may have to sacrificed their seats for going against Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, on his second term ambition, should the governor succeeded with a his leaked sacking plan of the council’s chairmen, which he had planned to carried out by Friday.

The governor has been suspected of sinister move immediately his second term plan was rejected and became public discussion, particularly after decision makers of his party, All Progress Congress (APC), cut down his hope on 2019 governorship election that may have had him return to office.

From findings, there was strong indication that the governor’s hope had all been exhausted, and that that could be the reason for his alleged plan to go down with set people believed to had caused his misfortune, making interventions from top members of the society not to prevail over the matter.

Should Ambode carry out the leaked sack plan of the 57 councils’ chairmen, their only crime would be because they were against their principal’s second term agenda and for also endorsing another anointed aspirant, Babajide Sanwo-olu, while he is still in power and plan to spend another term in office.

However, sources among the chairmen alleged that the governor was on sinister move which could have them go down with him since the party leaders do not want him to have another term in office.

They claimed that part of Ambode’s plan was to deprive them of the new month allocation, often comes through into into Join Account Allocation Committee (JAAC) and that the governor could lay them off before Friday.

One of the sources who spoke to our media organisation disclosed that the entire 57 chairmen had started reaching out to leaders of APC over the Ambode’s plan on learning of the move and that the action could be disastrous to democracy if he was not been called to order.

It would be recalled that the 57 councils’ chairmen were among first set of people who recently endorsed Sanwo-olu to be governor against Ambode whom they claimed had refused to run an all inclusive government.

Meanwhile, a close associate from the state house told The Guild that there was suggestion that the councils’ chairmen should be sent packing from office since they were against the governor.

He disclosed that, during a meeting at Astra Hotel in Ikeja on Monday, the the governor was advised to let the chairmen pay heavily for their actions and also be replaced by caretakers.

According to him, the governor might not go down alone since there is nobody on his side and had tried had to salvage the situation but failed.

“Ambode is facing re-election trouble and he has been told to go through primary alongside other contenders to test their popularity.

“Time has gone against any plan he has at hand because the primary election is just in five days and i do not think Ambode needs the sacking of those men at this time”.

With five days to governorship primary election in Lagos,  57 councils’ chairmen, 57 councils’ vice chairmen, 57 party chairmen, 377 wards chairmen, 377 councilors, 57 sacked executive secretaries, among others, had in the last two weeks endorsed Sanwo-olu, while Ambode was left unrecognized, with Governor Advisory Committee (GAC) members’ directive that all aspirants should go through primary election and test their popularity.

Hijab Controversy: MSSN Petitions Ambode, Insists Lagos Govt Must Issue Circular To Avoid Chaos

The Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria, Lagos State Area Unit has asked Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to protect the rule of law by adhering to the Court of Appeal ruling on hijab usage in Lagos State.
The MSSN Lagos in a petition addressed to Governor Ambode and dated Tuesday, September 19, recalled that there is a subsisting judgment of the Appeal Court in the case of Asiyat Vs Lagos State Government delivered at exactly 1:06 pm on Thursday, July 21st, 2016, clearly stating that wearing hijab by students, whether within or outside the school premises was a fundamental Human Right entrenched in the constitution.
In the petition, the MSSN accused the Lagos State Government of lawlessness, noting that it should obey the Court of Appeal ruling on hijab by issuing a circular to all District heads and principals to allow students put on the hijab.
The student-based organisation said that principals would continue to harass and victimise its members with the argument that there is no official correspondence asking them to permit it.
The petition read in part: “The ongoing harassment of our members is not only unconstitutional, an infringement, but also a contempt.
“The wave of discriminations, harassment and maltreatment have begun to rear its ugly head in different schools in Lagos State again despite the subsisting Court of Appeal ruling. The recent lawlessness and disregard for rule of law are exhibited by officials of the Lagos State Government, who claimed to be acting on the order of their superiors in the Civil Service.
“Some of the schools that recently witnessed this lawlessness are Matori Senior Grammar School, Isolo Comprehensive Junior High School, and Isolo Senior Secondary School.
“At Matori Senior Grammar School, the principal, Mrs. Akintola, gave a ‘stay at home or don’t put on hijab’ order to Muslim student.  Some of the students that went with their hijab, knowing fully well that it was their fundamental human right enshrined by the constitution and upheld by a competent court of law, were prevented from joining their colleagues in the classroom. In fact, they were prevented from entering the school premises, that was built with taxpayers’ money.
“Beyond being unconstitutional, this government deliberately transferred hijab-wearing students from Ansar-Ud-Deen Comprehensive Junior High School, Okota to Matori Senior Grammar School, where it has ordered the principal not to allow them to wear hijab. This is an extreme act of lawlessness and invitation to chaos.
“At Isolo Comprehensive Junior High School, the Principal – Mrs. Esther Adeniyi, placed an outright ban on hijab and asked students who want to put on hijab not to consider themselves as students of the school.
“We demand that you use your good offices to ensure a circular complying with the Court of Appeal judgement is urgently issued and pasted in all schools’ notice boards; that all principals and officials involved are sanctioned and sacked, in some cases; that the Lagos State Government should mandate its officials to respect the rights of Muslim students to practice their religion; that the Lagos State Government should be cautioned that its anti-democratic moves against Muslims may lead to chaos.”

How Ambode, Others Planned To Retire Tinubu From Politics After Winning Second Term

Lagos State Governor, Akinwumi Ambode, may be in another political storm following revelation of an alleged plan by him to retire the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, if elected into office for the second term.

Ambode is allegedly hatching the plan alongside his Personal Assistant, Mr. Bunmi Ariyo, and the State’s Attorney General, Mr. Niji Kazeem. The report revealed that Governor Ambode and his team are seeking to take over the political structure of Lagos APC from the founding fathers whom they believe had had enough to themselves.

It was also gathered that the embattled governor had penciled Kazeem as the person whom would be taking over the state’s seat of power in 2023 and had also used the state’s resources to turn the duo into midnight billionaires. In our finding, it was learnt that the trouble confronting the governor’s second term ambition began several months ago after news of Ambode move to make Kazeem his successor got to Asiwaju Tinubu and other leaders of the party.

A source close to the National Leader, Bola Tinubu, disclosed that the governor’s case had been decided and that the actions and body language of Ambode spoke volumes on his alleged plan to hijack the party’s structure from leaders and members, who had labor hard to put in place the power house the governor’s was enjoying. The source stated that any political redemption for Ambode must start with exclusion of the two people that had been the devils behind the throne and that they have continuously been feeding the governor’s ego in last three years.

The source claimed that both Ambode’s personal assistant and the state Attorney General have snatched much power that the governor could not form any decision on his own without the duo. “The two are powerful and rolling in billions of cash and real estate and have being unsparing of anyone perceived as an enemy. They have single-handedly led Ambode on the road to politcal golgota,” he said.

In a related development, another source who anonymously spoke on the issue revealed that that Kazeem was Ambode’s ally and that both the Attorney General and Ariyo were the governor’s booster. The source credited Kazeem of being the brain behind an alternative political structure for Ambode, ‘APLUS’, and that of plan to totally isolate and jettison the national leader from the party structure. He said that the political plan was that Kazeem would be taking over after Ambode’s eeigh years and that the move had been hatched.

The source revealed that the Kazeem lobbied to become Attorney General, even though the Lagos APC’s leadership and Tinubu had other more experienced party faithfuls for that position. He claimed that the Attorney General started attacking Tinubu months after Ambode persuaded the leader and securing his current  position and that the Kazeem regards the Lagos state former governor with disdain. “Kazeem brags of being a true Lagosian and that not even Tinubu can stop them”.

It was further revealed that common boast among the governor’s circle was that of move to retire Tinubu from politics once Ambode secure second term victory, but the alleged isolation and exclusion of Tinubu loyalists and core party leaders and dis-empowerment of thousands of APC mobilizers, being the Ambode agenda, became thwarted  after the leaders got hint of the plan.

There were allegations that Ambode kitchen cabinets were awash in money and that billions of funds available to both kazeem and Ariyo came from contracts being awarded exclusively by the governor. Sources from the state house said that Ariyo was a defacto deputy governor and that commissioners practically worship the PA so that they could be saved from the governor’s bad list.

One of them said that the Ambode’s PA acts as Deputy Governor and that the state’s executives bend to his demands and threats. “He does not pick calls or returns calls after several weeks. He has become a recluse. Constantly plotting behind the scenes he is one that has stepped on so many toes. He described Tinubu as a money monger.

“Bunmi is disrespectful and pompous since he is a billionaire. When Tinubu did not endorse Ambode, kazeem, Ariyo, Commissioner for Tourism and Culture, Steve Ayorinde, and Commissioner for Work and Infrastructure, Ade Akinsanya,  told the governor not to lose sleep. They assured him that he can fight back with the money he has power as a sitting governor. Not just Ambode but his kitchen cabinets are the problem of Lagos. They can no longer be trusted with power,” the source said.
