PDP Cannot Function Without Public Funds – Keyamo

Mr Festus Keyamo, spokesperson of APC Presidential Campaign Council, has said the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), cannot function without public funds.

Keyamo noted that the party is not a threat in the 2019 elections, adding that, the effort of PDP to pose a threat to the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari has collapsed.

He said that the PDP had more than four hundred groups but the groups are now dropping on weekly basis.

“It clearly shows that they cannot function without public funds and they discovered that it is no longer business as usual,” he said.

Keyamo made the claim on Thursday during the inauguration of the Women and Youths Wing of the APC Presidential Campaign Team in Abuja.

However, he called on APC supporters to intensify efforts towards ensuring that the party recorded massive victory at the polls.

Keyamo also said that the opposition party has been disseminating false information to tarnish the image of President Buhari which would not help them at the polls.

Also speaking, the former Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, commended the role of wife of the President, Aisha Buhari for galvanizing support for the re-election of the President.

2019: APC Vows To Back INEC’s Lawful Innovations

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Thursday said it would not oppose any legally backed instrument introduced by INEC to ensure that the forthcoming general election is peaceful, free and fair.

The National Publicity Secretary of APC, Mallam Lanre Isa-Onilu said the party will wait for INEC to issue approved guidelines for the elections before taking a position.

Onilu, who was asked by THISDAY Thursday to comment on the election guidelines, said the party will always support any measure aimed at improving the conduct of the elections as long as it has legal backing.

On the use of electronic device to transmit results of the general elections, the APC’s spokesman said, “It will be hypothetical; if we had not objected to it as at today that means we are not opposed to it. I think we should just wait to see the approved guidelines by INEC; then we can state our position.’’

He said since INEC had previously applied similar guidelines without any objection from the party, there may not be such objection this time around.

According to him, “But as far as incidence form is concerned, INEC has been using it before, and we have not asked whether we like it or not; but we don’t want to jump the gun, if they come up with guidelines, then we look at them item by item.

“If INEC is going to unveil the election guidelines on Monday, it will not be nice to start pre-empting it. We will rather wait for the guidelines to come before we can make comprehensive assessment of the situation. We will sit down as a party and then look at things holistically before making our view known.’’

2019: Why Nigerians Should Vote Out Buhari – Sani

The senator representing Kaduna Central senatorial district, Shehu Sani, has said that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has wreaked havoc on the people that elected it into office.

Addressing members of the Igbo Youth Peace and Unity Initiative in Kaduna, Thursday,  the Senator who was elected on the platform of the APC but defected to the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) urged Nigerians to vote out President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in next month’s elections.

“We must not deceive ourselves, we must tell ourselves the truth, the country is sick, the state is sick.

“Nigerians expected a better deal than what we are having today. People who begged you three and half years ago to vote them have turned themselves to demi gods” Sani said.

He said the poor were being oppressed, retrenched from work, marginalised and evil perpetrated against them.

“We have seen how poverty has ravaged the lives of Nigerians in the last three and half years, we have seen the killings, the level of bloodshed and violence, we have seen the division, the hopelessness, we have seen how a governor of a state has sacked thousands of people out of their work.

“How on earth do we give another opportunity to a man who has no human face, who has no human heart” he said.

Kwara APC Gov Candidate Wants Thugs Who Disrupted IEDPU Event Arrested

The governorship candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State, Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, has called on the police to arrests political thugs who disrupted a community event by the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU) in the state capital.

A statement issued by his campaign team alleged that the thugs disrupted the programme when Abdulrazaq was about to speak at the event, adding that adding that it should be seen as a sign of what to expect in the coming weeks.

The statement read: “The development at the IEDPU programme where some touts and street urchins shouting ‘Sai Bukky’ disrupted a community event is disappointing, embarrassing and antithetical to good moral and ethics for which Ilorin community is known.

“Apart from reminding everyone of the desperation for which the evil status quo in Kwara is known, the sad event clearly points at the extent to which the parasitic gangs will go in the coming months to continue to keep Kwara and its people down.

“The disruption of the event just when the Kwara APC governorship candidate AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq was about to give his speech exposed the shenanigans of the urchins and their paymasters whose uninspiring radio programme earlier in the day has drawn the scorn and condemnation of every Kwaran home and abroad. The disruption was probably a damage control for their insulting radio programme.”

The campaign team alleged that the intention was to damage the good image of the APC candidate and “slow down the tsunami that is already consuming their unproductive political fiefdom in Kwara.”

It however said that: “they clearly failed in their evil plot as their thugs — similar to what they did in Offa where their ankara wears betrayed their allegiance — were too crude to conceal the fact that they were on an errand to attack AbdulRazaq and make it look like the fine gentleman was going about with thugs.”

“Like a cobra fighting for its life, everybody knows that they have since lost the battle of ideas and are unabashedly desperate to wrestle in the mud to survive. It is too late. The people of Kwara are saying ‘Otoge’ — enough is enough.

“We will not wrestle with the pigs. We won’t fall for their gutter politics. We are for decent debate, even as we mobilise the people of Kwara to end the years of tyranny and corruption.”

The campaign team further stated: “Regardless, we wish to state that we are bona fide member of not just Ilorin Emirate but Kwara State and we won’t watch while some political merchants who have no real stake in Kwara deploy their sidekicks and thugs to unleash violence on our people.

“We will ensure that the characters who disrupted the IEDPU for political reasons are arrested and made to face the full weight of the law. We call on the police and other security agencies to be alive to their constitutional duties and bring those characters to book.

“The development is a red flag and should be nipped in the bud. We believe our security agencies are competent enough to ensure that people who don’t conform to basic ethics of proper behaviour in public space are made to account for their deeds.”

5,000 Defect From PDP, Others, To APC In Kwara

No fewer than 5,000 people from different parties in Kwara State South Senatorial District on Saturday defected to the All Progressives Congress at a rally in Omu-Aran, Kwara, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

The defectors, majorly from the Peoples Democratic Party were received and presented with their membership cards at the APC campaign flag-off in respect of Ekiti/Irepodun/Isin/Oke-Ero Federal Constituency in the 2019 general elections.

The leaders of the new members, in their separate remarks at the event, expressed their commitment and readiness to contribute their quota toward ensuring the party’s victory at the poll.

According to them, only the APC at all levels of governance could help to actualise their yearnings and aspirations.

Dr Seyi Adigun, a PDP chieftain and defector from Ajase Ward 2 in Irepodun Local Government Area, in a remark, said every reasonable politician must be firm in taking positive decisions concerning his or her political career.

Adigun, presently a Board member, Kwara State School of Nursing, Oke-Ode, who claimed to represent over 1,500 members, said he was convinced that the APC truly represented the best interest of Nigeria and Nigerians.

“Any reasonable person or politician must know the right time to stay or quit and as far as I’m concerned the APC by every standard represents the best interest of Nigerian people.

“I have the conviction that in any free, fair and credible election in Nigeria like the recently concluded bye-election in the state, the APC will always come out victorious,’’ he said.

Also, Mr Dare Bamkole, a leader of the defectors from Oke-Ero Local Government Area and a former Special Assistant on Sports to Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, said their defection was informed by APC’s overwhelming and people-oriented manifestos.

Mr Bashir Bolarinwa, the state APC Chairman, while receiving the decampees, said he remained the party’s authentic chairman in the state irrespective, of a recent High Court judgment nullifying the party’s state executive.

Bolarinwa urged the new members to be dedicated to the party’s principles and ideals, saying the challenges ahead required more commitment and sacrifice.

“What is important to us is that none of our party members should lose sleep over such a judgment.

“I want to make it also clear that all our candidates for the 2019 general elections remained intact and that I Bashir Bolarinwa remained the authentic chairman of APC in Kwara State,” he said.

Rep. Raheem Olawuyi, the recently sworn-in lawmaker, representing  Ekiti/Irepodun/Isin/Oke-Ero Federal Constituency and also the party’s candidate for the same slot in 2019 general elections, was optimistic of his victory at the poll.

He promised that his present and future representation would help to accelerate the desired socio-economic development of the constituency.

“We still stand by our promise to the electorate before our victory in the last bye-election that we are going to do things differently as a way of impacting our people positively.”

NAN reports that the campaign witnessed large attendance of party members and leaders across the four councils in the constituency and beyond.

APC Berates PDP Over Call For Resignation Of INEC Chairman, IGP

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has berated the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for calling for the resignation of the INEC chairman and the Inspector General of Police (IG).

National Chairman of the ruling party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, while receiving a delegation of the United States-based National Democratic Institute (NDI) and International Republican Institute (IRI) in his office in Abuja yesterday, challenged PDP leaders to a debate over their perceived fears, saying they were the ones who put some of the systems in place when they were in office.

“They want the IG of the police to be removed; they want INEC boss to be removed, but if you look at the evidence on ground, the first election conducted under this president was in Bayelsa State and PDP won. The second one was in Anambra State, APGA, a small regional party, won, and once they win, there are no issues but when they lose, there would raise the issue of bias,” he said.

Regarding the president’s refusal to assent to the amended electoral law, the ruling party leader said the APC feels it is not right to change the election rule on the eve of such elections.

Oshiomhole further alleged that the PDP’s presidential candidate emerged from the primaries through vote-buying.

Referring to what happened with the outcome of 2015 elections, Oshiomhole said a number of PDP governors, including those of Rivers and Akwa Ibom States, benefited from the non-use of the card reader machine.

He said: “the Supreme Court tried to show their own bias in favour of the PDP, the court held that INEC rule affirmed the use of card reader but because it is not in the law, it is not necessarily binding.”

2019: Opposition Parties Demanding Money To Support Buhari – Oshiomhole

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, yesterday alleged that many small opposition political parties are demanding money from APC to endorse President Muhammadu Buhari for re-election in 2019.

Speaking while receiving a delegation of the United States-based National Democratic Institute (NDI) and International Republican Institute (IRI) in his office in Abuja yesterday, Oshiomhole said there is a worrisome development being witnessed as the country prepares for next year’s elections.

He said the ruling party has been inundated with requests from many of these parties which he described as “democratic merchants,” begging to be paid money to enable them announce their support for President Buhari.

He said many of the registered political parties which said they were fielding presidential candidates are now ganging up to endorse other candidates.

“I can tell you how many requests I have received from these so-called political parties that if you pay me this, we will announce that we are supporting your presidential candidate. So these people have formed political parties as platform to trade. We do not need to focus on those who are democratic merchants, creating more confusion, generating more heat,” he said.

APC Dissolves State, LG, Ward Excos In Ogun, Imo

The All Progressives Congress has dissolved the executive committees in Imo and Ogun states.

Also dissolved were the local government and ward executives in the two states.

In their place, the NWC would inaugurate caretaker committees that would superintend over the affairs of the party in the two states ahead of the general elections.

Their dissolution formed part of the resolutions reached during the National Working Committee meeting presided over by the National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, in Abuja on Tuesday.

Recall that Governor Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun) and his counterpart in Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, and Minister of Communication, Adebayo Shittu, had vowed to work against governorship candidates in their states.

A member of the NWC told Punch newspaper correspondent that the meeting decided to dissolve all the party structures in Ogun and Imo states to stem the conflict of ideas being promoted by the two governors.

He said, “The two governors have sponsored their preferred candidates on the platform of other political parties while they are holding on to the APC’s senatorial tickets.

“We see this as a conflict of interest which could jeopardise the party’s efforts to win the two states.”

2019: Why I Closed Buhari’s South West Campaign Office – Adebayo Shittu

The Minister of Communications, Barrister Adebayo Shittu, has opened up on why he closed a campaign office he opened for President Muhammadu Buhari in the South West.

There were recent reports that the Minister, who was also a governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, stopped campaigning for President Buhari.

The Minister said that the report of him stopping to campaign for Buhari was a mere mischief.

He explained that the campaign office was a rented apartment, which was not his property.

Shittu told journalist that he rented the property for N3 million per annum and simply could not afford to pay that and the landlord was impatient with him, which led to its closure.

His words, “I think that whole idea that I stopped campaigning for Buhari is nonsensical. I was the first cabinet member who started campaigning for Buhari’s reelection.

“I am still part of this government and part of the APC. In fact, I am a foundation member of the APC and my interactions and relationship with Buhari is not just starting.

“I was his party’s governorship candidate in Oyo state in 2011 and President Buhari has continued to earn my respect and adoration because he is one President who was either the first or the second to willingly reduce his salary by half.

“I think the first leader to do that was Murtala Mohammed who is late now.

“If he can reduce his legitimate salary so that the Nigerian state can utilise that second part for the good of this country, why would I do that? I think the story is mere mischief.

“We had a rented apartment which is not my property. We rented it for N3 million per annum and we simply could not afford to pay that and the landlord was impatient with us.

“He said we either pay or get out and we simply took the most sensible option by vacating the place. We are in the process of looking for another office space for the campaign. We hope to get something cheaper.

“So, it is not true that for whatever reason, I would say that I am no longer campaigning for Buhari. It was the handiwork of mischief makers and a section of the media cannot be exonerated from that.

“They started carrying that report without seeking my own side of the story. That is simply not patriotic. It is self serving and politically motivated.”

Ogun Royal Fathers Shower Blessings On APC Guber Candidate Dapo Abiodun

The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has received the blessings of the royal institutions in Remoland led by the Paramount ruler and Akarigbo of Remo Land, Oba Babatunde Ajayi.

The Remo royal fathers including the Ewusi of Makun Sagamu, Oba Timothy Akinsanya, Oludotun of Idotun Ikenne, the Odunayo Solarin  and Onirolu of Irolu – all spoke on behalf of other Obas and blessed the candidate of APC to show support for his ambition and as one competent to govern the state.

Also, the Akarigbo, Oba Ajayi,  prayed for Abiodun’s success in his aspiration to govern the state, advising him to ensure he fulfills the policies he highlighted when the candidate gets the people’s mandate.

Abiodun who reeled out his manifestos during the consultation, highlighted the policies and plans, including free education up to the junior school, provision of standard health care, provision of industrial parks, increase in Internally Generated Revenue(IGR) and even distribution of infrastructures that would be implemented when he becomes the governor of the State.

Amosun Shuns APC Reconciliation Meeting

Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun and his loyalists were reportedly absent at the reconciliation meeting in Lagos to pacify aggrieved members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), in order to pave way for the party’s victory in next year’s general elections.

It would be recalled that Amosun has been aggrieved that his preferred candidate, Abdulkabir Akinlade was dropped by the APC in favour of Prince Dapo Abiodun. This development led to Amosun’s supporters defecting to the Allied People’s Movement (APM), where Akinlade is now the governorship candidate.

Amosun had made it clear that he would work against Dapo Abiodun and the APC in the governorship election, but that he would work for President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election.

However, at the meeting held at the State House, Marina, on Wednesday, APC members in Lagos, Ogun and some other states were present.

At the meeting, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode and his Borno State counterpart, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, called on aspirants from Lagos and Ogun States to unite and work for the party’s victory at all levels during the 2019 elections.

Ambode and Shettima, who had earlier met with aggrieved aspirants in Osun, Ondo, Ekiti and Oyo States, said it was important for members of the party in the Southwest to accept the outcome of the primaries and the party’s supremacy in order to approach the general elections with a united front.

The two Governors, who are both members of the National Peace and Reconciliation Committee set up by the APC to pacify aggrieved party members in the Southwest, said those aggrieved should consider making the necessary sacrifice no matter how difficult it is, in the overall interest of the party.

Speaking at the meeting held at Lagos House, Marina, Ambode said while it was gratifying that there was no issue in Lagos largely due to the personal sacrifice made, the same could not be said of Ogun, and thereby urged concerned party members to do the needful to ensure peace.

“More significantly, we can see from the reflection of those here and I can declare that we do not have any issue in Lagos State and that we are one family. But again that is not to say that there is no platform for reconciliation; we do not know whether there are some aspirants in the crowd who are aggrieved but we can say affirmatively as a party that we are one family in Lagos State.

“This is not, however, to create any prejudice to whatever is happening in Ogun State. Without the setting up of this Committee, it is very clear that things are not the same in Ogun State like we have in Lagos State and we do recognise that. That is why this Committee is more or less anxious to see whatever it is that we can use as ingredients in creating peace in Ogun State.

“Whatever happens in Ogun is a reflection of what is happening in the whole of the Southwest and we are ready to make sure that this our Committee brings everybody back into one family fold. So, we have come with open mind and even when closures have been made, the feelings and input here is what we are taking to Abuja tomorrow and also making sure that NWC (National Working Committee) get a very clear picture of how you feel and ultimately if there is a need to let the highest organ of the party intervene in a way that everything that is happening in Ogun State reflects what is happening in Lagos State, we would be very happy to do it and we are committed to making sure that every representation is taken to party headquarters for redress and whatever it is that can be done,” Ambode said.

While emphasising the need for the party to forge a common ground to prosecute the next year’s elections, Governor Ambode encouraged aggrieved members to embrace genuine reconciliation, saying only such could bring about compensation at the end of the day when the party emerge victorious.
