APYF Congratulates Founder On Making Africa’s 100 Most Influential List

All Progressives Youth Forum (APYF) has congratulated its founder and former Chairman, Barrister Ismaeel Ahmed on the recent recognition accorded him as one of the most Influential People of African Descent, Global 100 Under 40.

The Forum notes that the sterling leadership qualities of Barrister Ahmed, coupled with his contributions to political development and good governance in Nigeria, makes him worthy of this honor.

Considering the visible and impactful role Barrister Ismaeel has played in the politics of Nigeria, especially during the campaigns and struggle to entrench progressive governance in Nigeria; we are proud to say this is a most deserving award.

As someone who has also made visible progress in his work as one of the frontline managers of Nigeria’s Social Investment Programs (SIP) in his capacity as the Senior Special Assistant on SIP to the President, lifting many households and individuals out of poverty and bettering the lot of millions of Nigerians; it is a fitting tribute to the capacity of Barrister Ismaeel as someone who combines the capacity of a politician with the refined intellect of an administrator. It’s therefore not surprising that the award is being awarded him in the ‘Politics & Governance category.’

To us in the APYF, we are most excited that our founder, who has done a great job mobilizing and galvanising young people from across Nigeria to embrace the ideological politics of our party, the APC, is being rewarded for his excellent interventions in the personal and political development of multitude of Nigerian youths.

While we thank the organization, Most Influential People of African Decent (MIPAD) for the honor accorded our leader, we also commend Barrister Ismaeel Ahmed for displaying compelling leadership attributes and his trademark ingenuity which has brought this sort of global recognition that we all are very proud of. It’s our prayers that God continues to strengthen the awardee and guide him to keep being the shining light and inspiration to our generation.

On Tinubu, AYCF Overreached Itself, Says Arewa Progressive Initiative

The Arewa Progressive Initiative (API) has reacted to a Vanguard publication with the title, “Arewa Youths to Tinubu: Don’t disparage our leaders” published on the 25th April, 2019 which was based on a press release issued by the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum(AYCF) and signed by its National President, Alhaji Yerima Shettima.

In his reaction, the National Coordinator of API, Mr. Alwan Hassan, observed that the release by AYCF warning Tinubu against disparaging northern leaders as represented by the duo of Senate President Bukola Saraki and Speaker Yakubu Dogara is not only ill advised but misdirected.

According to Mr. Hassan, “It’s quite unfortunate for this young people, who represent no one but themselves and their stomachs, to think they can use the collective name of northern youths to undertake the business of defending some individuals who have not in any significant way impacted on the growth and development of northern Nigeria. More disappointing is the misguided belief of a small group of youths under the name of AYCF that anyone who holds an office automatically acquire the title of a ‘leader’.

“We would like to know what political position Asiwaju Bola Tinubu was holding when he promoted other people and made them catalyst for the growth and development of Nigeria. What was the position of Tinubu when he promoted people like Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, the Minister of Power, Works and Housing; Mr. Tunde Fashola; Minister of Information and Culture, Mr. Lai Mohammed; former minister of Steel Development and now governor of Ekiti State; Mr. Kayode Fayemi and a host others to leadership positions in this country. We challenge the AYCF or any other bodies to name just one individual raised to a meaningful political height in the entire north by the duo of Saraki and Dogara.

“Even when we have a President Buhari who has a clear interest in the progress of not only the North but the entire country; it’s these same Saraki and Dogara that the AYCF are adorning with the borrowed clothes of northern leaders that stood in the front row to frustrate the effort of the President and also championed anti-Buhari projects that greatly slow down the pace of development that could have been achieved this past four years.

“Conversely, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, apart from promoting individuals who have greatly contributed to the success of the Buhari administration so far, has also shown great commitment to the development of Nigeria and especially Arewa by being pivotal to the enthronement of capable and progressive leaders who are doing well in the North.

“It was Asiwaju Tinubu who supported Sen. Ahmed Lawan, a northern candidate, for the position of Senate President in 2015. Before the 2015 elections, it was the same Tinubu who stood by the then CBN governor, now Emir of Kano, when the then government witch hunted him. It was Tinubu who provided a haven for him in Lagos where a court gave injunctions against his illegal arrest. Now we ask, where were the duo of Saraki and Dogara during this trying time of a prominent son of the north?”

While warning the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) to be cautious and be wary of who their group identifies with; Mr. Hassan invites everyone to check available records of individual and group contributions to the growth of northern Nigeria and see if the names of Saraki and Dogara would even feature among the first 100. “What then qualifies them as northern leaders”, the statement queried.

Only Selfish Elders Would Endorse Atiku, Says Arewa Progressive Initiative

The attention of Arewa Progressives Initiative (API) has been drawn to a news item earlier today announcing the endorsement of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by a detachment of self-acclaimed elders drawn from the North, East, West, Niger Delta and the Middle Belt.

While we acknowledge that this sort of hurried endorsement, such as the one given by the ‘elders’ hardly have any effect on the electoral outcome, considering that the candidate of the same PDP was endorsed by the same elders in 2015 without any reasonable outcome; we however consider it necessary to give our views on the endorsement, if only to expose the selfishness of our so-called elders.

It is a fact of life that when people attained old age, they think less of the future and think more of what they could get at the moment before they finally take a bow. We understand the desperation of our ‘elders’ to make as much money as they can, especially during election season. So it is not at all surprising that they have endorsed a man who has plenty dollars, a significant portion of which was corruptly amassed, to throw around.

What is patently shocking is that our ‘elders’ claimed that having compared the credentials of the leading candidates; Atiku “possessed integrity to take the nation out of the wood”.

How anyone, least of all people who are regarded as elders, would even think of adorning a character like Alhaji Atiku with the toga of INTEGRITY beats imagination. But we understand that money buys everything in Nigeria, even undeserved names and appellations.

However, the good news, despite the disappointing conduct of our ‘elders’ is that the majority of voters (96.31% of the total 84 million voters) who are expected to vote in the 2019 elections are those who understand that tomorrow is important.

A large percentage of the Nigerian voters would rather that President Muhammadu Buhari carefully plan and prepare a glorious future for them and their children; rather than live to see a government that would fritter Nigeria’s commonwealth in a bid to keep a President and his friends happy like the PDP candidate already promised.

Thankfully, even if the ‘elders’ expect to benefit from the free looting that would no doubt take place under an Atiku presidency, the chance of that happening is slim; considering that they constitute a staggering minority of the voting populace.

Anyone who seeks to understand how selfish and self-centered our ‘elders’ are, especially those of them from the north, need not ask too much questions. He only need to ask these ‘elders’ to state just any two major projects they have facilitated or negotiated on behalf of their different regions from 1999 to date. All they are concerned with is to secure appointment for their families and relatives; or get money and contracts. They are less concerned about the welfare of Nigerians or other issues that relate to the general good of the people.

This is why a President Muhammadu Buhari who is doing everything humanly possible to build infrastructures that would quicken the steps of Nigeria towards growth and development would never enjoy their endorsement, whatever its worth.

This is a president that within three years has completed the Taraba power project; approved the Mambilla power project which is only awaiting the NEXIM funding to kickstart; commissioned the first ever northern oil well in Bauchi and opened up exploration in four other frontier Basins of Lake Chad, Gongola, Anambra, Sokoto and Bida; initiated an ongoing hydro power project in Niger State; built the Baro port in the north; granted approval for three modular refineries; completed the long awaited Kano-Jigawa-Damaturu-Borno expressway; undertakes the laying of Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano gas pipeline; undertakes the reconstruction Abuja-Kaduna-Kano road; among other lofty projects aimed at resetting Nigeria and returning it to the path of progress and shared prosperity envisioned by its founding fathers. But all these meant nothing to the ‘elders’, as long as President Buhari would not share appointments and throw money around.

While we acknowledge the choice made by the ‘elders’ to be greedy, despite all they have benefited from this country in their prime; we also reserve the rights to take our future in our hands. As young people who constitute the largest representation of the voting populace; we would use our votes to retain President Buhari in office beyond 2019 in order to complete the onerous task of redirecting this nation away from mismanagement and avarice that the ‘elders’ obviously prefer.

This election that comes up in a fortnight would be very decisive, and it would be the very end to all those who wish that Nigeria should only function to take care of their needs and desires. And we won’t need any endorsement from ‘elders’, but from God and the Nigerian electorate, to make this happen God willing.

Harvest of Death: APYF Replies Amnesty International, Warns Against Undermining Peace In Nigeria

Our attention has been drawn to a report on the farmers-herders clashes launched by Amnesty International Nigeria on Monday in Abuja. The report, tagged “Harvest of Death” captured only three years (2015-2018) of the decade long conflict, but cynically and deliberately ignored reports from previous years.

The attack by Fulani herdsmen did not start in 2015 as reported by Amnesty International. Between July 2012 and June 2015, suspected herdsmen wreaked havoc on villages in Benue and Plateau States which led to the death of Senator Gyang Dantong and the Majority Leader of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Mr. Gyang Fulani.
On April 23, 2013: 10 farmers were killed in an attack in Mbasenge community, Guma L0cal Government Area of Benue State, by suspected herdsmen; on July 5, 2013: 20 people were killed in a conflict between Tiv farmers & herdsmen at Nzorov, Guma LGA; on November 7, 2013: attackers strike at Ikpele & Okpopolo communities killing 7 and displacing over 6000 inhabitants, and many more.

It is worthy of note that the inability of the Goodluck Jonathan administration to find a lasting solution to the killings led to President Muhammadu Buhari inheriting the menace which has then spread to other local government areas and communities in Benue, Taraba, and Plateau States. Fortunately, Nigerians elected a President capable of nipping the conflict in the bud.

Contrary to what is stated in the report by Amnesty International that “little has been done to prevent, arrest and prosecute,” the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration has arrested and prosecuted some numbers of suspected militia herders which include the Commander of Livestock Guard. Alhaji Tashaku Aliyu, and Haruna Usman. Seven Fulani herdsmen that were invlolved in the kidnap of the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation have been sentenced to life imprisonment by an Ondo State High Court.

Troops on AYEM Akpatuma exercise arrested among others, two persons, Danasebe Gasama and Danjuma, aka “American”, in connection with the killings of Takum and Ussa local government areas of Taraba state. Troops of the 93 battalion of the Nigerian army stationed in Tukum, Taraba State, arrested nine well-armed militia from Benue, claiming to be members of government sponsored security volunteers.

Aside these arrests and prosecution, the Nigerian Customs Service under the able leadership of Hameed Ali, intercepted 470 pump action rifles imported from Turkey.

That Amnesty International will in a misleading manner go ahead to release a report saying “government failures fuel escalating conflict between farmers & herders” is unacceptable.

Where was Amnesty International when Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, paid a visit to Benue state to assess the situation of the state particularly the displacement of people? On June 25, 2018, Vice President Osinbajo, visited Plateau State to condole with the people, and held meetings with community leaders and initiated a reconciliation process? Also on June 26, President Muhammadu Buhari, visited Plateau State and assured everyone of a long lasting resolution to the crisis.

We feel compelled to remind Amnesty International of the N10bn fund approved by President Muhamamdu Buhari for rehabilitation of farms and farming communities in Benue and Nasarawa States, and has also been made available to Plateau State. That fund is to enable farmers who have lost farmlands to the conflict go back to their farms and provide whatever assistance is required.

So far, the federal government has implemented the permanent positioning of security agencies in certain communities that are prone to these type of violence. The Nigerian Military has also deployed additional Special Forces to support OPERATION SAFE HAVEN in Plateau State. Additional security units have also been set up in Benue State with large deployment of special intervention force to flash point areas in Benue State.

It is therefore important to state here that the cynical and self-serving report of the amnesty international is aimed at dividing us as a nation and undermine the relative improvement and peace sustained in the troubled areas. Whatever the aim of their report is, we are confident that Nigerians won’t buy into their plot to give life to a virus that has long ceased to exist.

We again reiterate that the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration is committed to serving the people of Nigeria, and will stop at nothing to sustain lasting peace enjoyed in every parts of the country.

Don’t Denigrate The Effort To Address Social Emergency, APC Youth Wing Tells National Assembly

The All Progressives Youth Forum (APYF) has warned the National Assembly to stop denigrating the effort of President Muhammadu Buhari administration to address the huge social imbalances created by the same Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) whose members are now at the forefront of the new onslaught in the Senate to stop young Nigerians from benefitting from our Commonwealth through the social investment program of the current administration.

It is sad that the Senate Minority leader, Senator Abiodun Olujimi, who as a mother herself should celebrate the fact that the government is now productively engaging hitherto jobless young people is the very person leading the campaign against a well-designed welfare system that can protect people from hardship, safeguard the economy from shocks, develop people’s skills and improve their ability to participate in society and the labour market. The House of Representatives, led by the opposition PDP, has also not relented in its efforts to whip public sentiment against the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo.

Recently, the House, which constituted itself into an ‘investigation agency’ in clear contravention of its constitutional mandate issued a summon to the Vice President over what it termed “illegal approval of N5.8 billion north-east intervention fund”. In all this, the clear target of both the Senate and the House of Representatives is Professor Osinbajo who has admirably coordinated the social intervention initiatives of President Buhari administration. The scheme of the ‘opposition National Assembly’ is to call to question the integrity of the Vice President and discredit the program he coordinates. This plan has failed woefully.

It is encouraging to note that the reactions from majority of Nigerians, beneficiaries and stakeholders in the Social Investment Programs (SIP) have been positive; until some of our anti-people legislators stepped in. The National Assembly is now clearly the number one enemy of the common man, projecting the elitist ideology of its leadership and deriding the intervention aimed at bailing out the most vulnerable in our midst.

While Senator Olujimi and some of her shortsighted PDP colleagues in the National Assembly are busy thinking of the next election; the government of President Muhammadu Buhari is committed to the future of Nigeria and its people. The APC government would continue to invest in the Nigerian people, irrespective of their religion or party affiliations. All beneficiaries of the social investment programs are free to belong to any political party of their choice; the Buhari government will not politicise or trivialise a program that is a lifesaver for many families.

Going forward, we warn the National Assembly and its leadership to desist from denigrating the social investment programs and the beneficiaries, or they will be confronted with the anger of the teeming Nigerian youths whose future is gradually being shaped by the current forward-thinking government of President Buhari. Indeed, the social investment program which is giving the ‘opposition Senate’ headaches, is one of the many interventions of the present government in its on-going efforts to strengthen the social backbone of our country.

No amount of mischief from the National Assembly or anywhere else can distract President Muhammadu Buhari from delivering to Nigerians an egalitarian society in which all citizens live above the threshold of poverty.

When You Fight The Wind, You Can’t Win – Alwan Hassan On President Buhari

You don’t change a government with hate and malice, you change government with tact and intelligence. This sustained onslaught against Buhari cannot move him from that seat. Never seen such a people who sleep and wake up with constricted venom against a man who aspired to be where he is today.

The Nigerian presidential seat is not for Christians or Muslims, it is for that Nigerian who is a Nigerian and has the Nigerian blood in him. A nation bedevilled by calamity and the only advocacy by some of her citizens is that the president should resign or be voted out.

Nothing is more sickening and illogical than this. Sincere people rally around themselves to solve problems, but here people gather in mosques and churches plotting the removal of a constitutionally elected man. The man you are so maliciously impugning has his own supporters who are doing everything to return their candidate. Instead of your surreptitious plot, why not bring forth a candidate, polish him and sell his candidacy?

Blackmail doesn’t change a government, disguised venom don’t win elections, only sincere electioneering ideas wins election. These outdated strategies of using religion and ethnicity cannot fetch any electoral values. This is 3 years since Muhammadu Buhari assumed leadership yet no single person has been islamized as peddled by the wicked merchants of mischief. If I were you, I will resign to fate in the matter of this man.

This is the same man that was set to die when his car exploded in volcanic IED, this man had his character mutilated on TV, radio, newspapers, in churches and mosques, in fact he lost nearly his life but guess what! He defied all these excruciating experiences to come out strong because God was not done with him. Do not begrudge this man, it is not him manifesting mortality, it is God manifesting his awesomeness on this man.

People like this rarely adore a generation, he has this special anointing- like the rock in the river, he is firmly rooted. Use wisdom to dislodge not these weak conspiracies flying round.

The Muhammadu Buhari I know is not here to promote any agenda other than his sworn oath of regaining the nation from the claw of usurper, looters, vampires and the acclaimed landlords of Nigeria. Stop fighting the wind, you can’t win.

Alwan Hassan.

APYF Congratulates New SGF Boss Mustapha, Pledges Support

The All Progressives Youth Forum (APYF) received with excitement the news of the appointment of Mr. Boss Mustapha as the new Secretary to the Government of the Federation by His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari. On behalf of the teeming youths of the APC, we wish to congratulate and felicitate with Mr. Mustapha on this well deserved appointment.

The work of the Secretary to the government of the Federation is a job that requires effective management of relationship and bureaucratic structures. As a lawyer, management consultant, politician and businessman who has spent several years in Nigeria’s public service and built a solid reputation, we are confident that Mr. Mustapha possessed the requisite ability needed to streamline the activities of a government in today’s highly sophisticated and relationship-based world. We have no doubt that the new SGF would deplore his far-reaching experience in contributing to the delivery of good governance and the prosecution of the Change agenda of President Buhari’s administration.

As the new SGF resumes office, APYF as a formidable youth group of the ruling party wishes to reaffirm its commitment to ensuring the success of President Buhari’s administration on all fronts. We also pledge unrestrained support to the new SGF as he sets out to contribute his quota towards strengthening the workings of government for the benefit of Nigerians.

Finally, we call on all progressives, especially party leaders and stalwarts, to rededicate ourselves to the change we promised Nigerians and to commit to building speedy progress for President Buhari’s administration in order to seize the momentum that the appointment of the new Secretary for the government would no doubt bring about.

While we are very grateful to Mr. President for the excellent choice made with Mr. Mustapha’s appointment, our sincere wishes is for the success of the administration, for the personal wellbeing of all change agents and for the peace and prosperity of Nigeria.
