StretchCenter Takes #GirlEmpowered 2.0 to IGBOGBO Ikorodu, Empowering 400 Girls
It was president Barack Obama who said empowering women isn’t just the right thing to do, it’s the smart thing to do…because when women succeed, nations are more safe, more secure, and more prosperous. Girl Empowered is an initiative structured to cater for the educational, emotional, health and general well-being of the girl child between the ages of 13 and 25.
There seems to be a major growing concern in many low income suburbs and unfortunately we aren’t doing enough about it. Many teenage girls around local communities are losing the drive to face their education and become successful.
The origin of this challenge lies in the fact that many of these girls who live in this low income suburb don’t have anyone to show them how to transcend from girlhood to womanhood. Their poor parents aren’t there; their poorly equipped schools don’t have what it takes to support them with such information or mentorship.
Therefore, StretchCenter, via its pet project, GirlEmpowered has taken up the challenge to fill this vacuum and essentially the challenge of poor self esteem, lack of mentorship and clear road map amongst young ladies.
Girl Empowered is a development channel that provides support to girls by working to build their Confidence, ensuring that they uphold good Character, aid their Competence level, help them build Courage even as young women and also help to Connect them. All to ensure that there is a critical mass of young girls who are driven by a burning desire to be the best.
Omotola Fawunmi, a One Young World Ambassador is the visionary of GirlEmpowered, as an HACEY Girl Child Ambassador and a managing partner at STRETCH Consulting, Omotola engages her network of development partners, friends and associates, to inspire young women. This time around, she has engaged the Igbogbo-Bayeku LCDA In Ikorodu to ensure that girls in Igbogbo Ikorodu are empowered in practical and impactful ways.
Young and dynamic speakers will be discussing and answering questions on Sexual and reproductive health, mastering emotions, starting a business as young lady, staying first class in a third world amongst other relevant topics that concerns the wellbeing of the participants. Aside from the discussions and then answer and answer segment, a bulk of neatly used and usable girly materials including books will also be distributed in she-boxes to girls at the event.
Date: Thursday 4th of September, 2014.
Venue: Igbogbo Students Union Hall, Opposite Igbogbo-Bayeku LCDA, |Igbogbo Ikorodu,
