Stop Further Action On Amaechi’s Suspension, Court Orders PDP
A Port Harcourt High Court presided over by Justice M. Ogbuji on Friday ruled that the Peoples Democratic Party should stop further action on the suspension of the Rivers governor until the suit which the governor brought before it challenging his suspension is resolved.
Gov. Amaechi of Rivers is challenging his suspension by the PDP over a petition that he has refused to reinstate the democratically elected council executives of the Obio-Akpor local government council. The governor however insists that the dissolution of the council was not his doing, as it was carried out by the state assembly which has the statutory right to do so.
The judge agreed with the counsel to Gov. Amaechi, Akin Olujimi, who brought an application asking that the status quo be maintained.
The PDP is also expected to appear before the court on June 6 at the next sitting of the court, as ordered by the judge.
The Judge directed Amaechi to serve the PDP the necessary court processes and also make publications in major national dailies.
With this ruling, the panel raised by the PDP chairman to investigate the governor is expected to suspend its work.
