SSS Release Omojuwa, Others, Orders Them To Report On Thursday
After several hours in the custody of security agencies, the Department of State Security Service, SSS, has released popular Nigerian Blogger, Japheth Omojuwa and some protesters who were arrested in Abuja on Wednesday.
Omojuwa and five others were arrested on Wednesday afternoon by officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp, after leading others protest the death of at least 17 people in nationwide recruitment tests by the Nigeria Immigration Service.
They were transferred to the headquarters of the Department of State Security Service after initially taken to the headquarters of the NSCDC in Gudu, Abuja.
The names of the other protesters arrested were given as Calvin Lawan, Uche Briggs, Ikeolu Senbanjo, Tosin Adex and a Mr. Ogunmola.
The detained protesters were released at about 8 p.m. and their phones handed back to them. The police asked that they report tomorrow.
Shortly after the releases, Mr. Omojuwa was quoted as saying “they did not molest us; indeed the SSS folks were very professional.”
