South-East Aspirant Joins Race For APC Presidential Ticket
Ahead of a crucial meeting of the interim leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Tomorrow, a former federal lawmaker from the South-east, Hon. Chukwuemeka Nwajuba has declared interest to vie for the presidential ticket of the party.
Nwajiuba, who represented the people of Okigwe South in the House of Representatives between 1999 and 2003, has joined the former Head of State, General Muhammed Buhari in the tussle for the standard bearer of the party.
The apparent silence by politicians in the party over their 2015 presidential ambitions may have given way Nwajuba to join the reace.
While speaking to some journalists in Abuja yesterday, Nwajiuba said his decision to cast his lot for the APC’s 2015 presidential ticket was borne out of the desire to adopt a new approach in delivering service to our people.
“We have decided in the interest of who we are that this is our only country, we have no other solace, So it is a delight for me to be interested in how my country is run and having been a member of the House of Representatives and being able have grasp of the challenges facing most parts of Nigeria,” he said.
Youthful but experienced politician, Nwajiuba came to national limelight when as the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Works during the fourth session of the National Assembly, he spear-headed the probe of the alleged N300 billion road project scam.
He also served as the secretary of the constitution drafting sub-committee of the opposition coalition that gave rise to APC.
Speaking on how he plans to navigate his way through the tough waters of Nigerian politics, especially against the background of the zoning plan by APC, Nwajiuba said he hopes to upset the status quo by canvassing issues that are germane to both the party’s success at the polls and the overall well-being of Nigerians.
“I appreciate the uniformity in trying to make this place work for the interest of this people and I believe that once the campaign starts, we will announce the proper participation in running for the presidency of the country.
“Right now, we are consulting with different strata of the society, consulting with different parties to bring to mind a new approach to governance, a new approach to how Nigeria is seen and portrayed, a new approach to the result that we expect and how we can deliver service to our people.
