Shekarau’s Associates Visit Gov Kwankwaso, Endorse Him As APC Leader
Some political associates of former Kano State governor Ibrahim Shekarau yesterday paid solidarity to Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso at Government House, Kano where they endorsed him as the leader of All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
The visit led by former presidential of the National Republican Congress (NRC), Alhaji Bashir Uthman Tofa, culminated in a two-hour closed-door meeting with the other members of the delegation which includes Malam Ibrahim Khalil, Senator Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya.
Others present at the meeting were Alhaji Barau Jibrin, Aminu Ibrahim Abba, Alhaji Ibrahim Kankarofi, Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil and former ANPP state secretary Rabi’u Bako.
In his address while receiving delegates of the defunct Democratic Peoples Party (DPP), Governor Kwankwaso revealed that stakeholders of the APC in Kano were making spirited efforts to reinforce unity among the different camps that formed the party, to enable it face the challenges ahead.
He said as a pointer to the fact that the APC is set to retain power in the state, all members of the House of Representatives from Kano State had defected to the party, while members of the state legislature had also defected except one member that is yet to make up his mind.
“The APC portends a good omen for Kano and Nigeria. All over this part of the country, people are joining our party, and with a strong and united followership, we will bring about the desired change in this country,” the governor remarked.
Governor Kwankwaso reassured the visitors his commitment to carry every member of the party along, pointing out that each party loyalist has a role to play in ensuring that the APC wins elections in 2015 and beyond.
Earlier, the leader of the DPP members that defected to APC in Kano, Alhaji Abdurrahman Baffa Yola, had explained that the visit was at the behest of their leader and former governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa, to express support to the governor as the leader of the APC in Kano.
Alhaji Abdurrahman, who expressed their satisfaction over the developmental strides of the Kwankwaso administration, said Nigeria needs leaders like the governor to move it to the next level.
