Shekarau Decides on Joining PDP Today
If he does, the former governor will be joining his Sokoto counterpart, Attahiru Bafarawa who defected to the PDP four days ago.
Both Shekarau and Bafarawa had met in Sokoto last week to discuss the overtures made by the PDP and the Presidency to buffer support base in the aftermath of the defection of the G-5 governors.
Yesterday, some youths in Shekarau’s residence were seen carrying the PDP flag and chanting the party’s slogan. According to one of them, “this has been the practice for a few weeks”.
At the meeting today, Shekarau may likely formally announce his decision even as a committee he set up to look into the power tussle between him and the state governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who in November defected to the PDP, is set to submit its report on the former governor’s next move.
It was also observed that thousands of party supporters from the 44 local government areas of the state have been storming Shekarau’s residence for political meetings and briefings.
Shekarau’s media aide, Sule Ya’u, confirmed that a meeting of all supporters of the former governor will hold today but declined to emphasise that his principal was on his way to the ruling party.
“Yes, it is true that the former governor will meet his supporters from the 44 local government areas of Kano; these leaders in their own rights are well informed of the developments in the APC and are to advise him accordingly, whether or not to remain in APC.
