Senate Cautions Gov El-Rufai Over Party Crisis
Nigeria Senate on Tuesday cautioned the Kaduna state Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai to act within the ambit of law over protracted crisis in Kaduna state all Progressives Congress party.
The decision followed a motion by the Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial district, Shehu Sani, in which he notified the senate that the house of a sitting Senator was demolished in Kaduna by the State governor as a result of the intra-party crisis.
Senator Sani, explained that the governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has demolished Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi’s house in Kaduna without notice for any reason.
He emphasised that El-Rufai was emboldened by claims that he was on the side of President Muhammadu Buhari to do whatever he liked.
Recalling how his Constituency office was attacked 11 times, Senator Sani berated the military and Police to have allowed themselves to be used.
“Mr. President, distinguished colleagues, I recall that my Constituency office was attacked 11 times and unfortunately, Military and Police personnel were used in these attacks,” he said.
Senator Hunkuyi represents Kaduna North Senatorial district and has been at loggerheads with Governor El-Rufai on party matters in the state.
The Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu advised politicians to always abide by the provisions of the constitution, noting that the rule of law must prevail, no matter the circumstances.
Senator Ekweremadu reaffirmed that immunity for Governors must not be abused nor used to endanger the nation’s democracy.
