Season of Defection: Jonathan’s Ex-Minister Dumps PDP for APC
The human resource base of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), seems to be depleting by the hour.
From a top governorship aspirant in Benue State, Samuel Ortom, to the former Secretary to the Government of Akwa-Ibom State, Umama Umana and then the former governor of Oyo State, Alao Akala, top men in the party seem to be saying goodbye as the build up to the 2015 genera election gathers momentum.

The latest of the defector is a former minister under the government of president Goodluck Jonathan, Chris Ogiemwonyi.
Ogiemwonyi, who served as Minister of State for Works Jonathan, decamped from the Peoples Democratic Party, to the opposition All Progressives Congress. He has his eyes in the Edo state governorship seat in 2016.
Ogiemwonyi told reporters that his decision to join the APC was due to the performance of the party and the state governor in the transformation of Edo.
Berating the PDP for dismal performance over the last 10 years, Ogiemwonyi said, “People like to do comparative analysis. The PDP was in Edo for 10 years and APC is here now for six years. The boy in the University of Benin or Ekpoma will compare when the PDP was here and what they are seeing today. We are no more fools, nobody can come here and talk about using federal might to rig, the people of Edo State will decide.
“You are not coming to force anything on our throat; time has passed when one man will decide who becomes who in Edo State. Edo people are not fools. We are all giving support to Oshiomhole because of what he is doing in the state. Our people can see the difference.
“Look at our roads with six lanes. Look at the Benin Water Storm project. Today flood no longer sack our people. If not for the bad state Oshiomhole met this state, we would have been comparing Edo to Lagos. Edo people will vote the APC come 2015 and 2016. I have no doubt about that.”
Edo state Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, former Head of State, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, former Lagos state Governor Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and other members of the party are all expected at the formal reception of ex Minister Chris Ogiemwonyi at the traditional Urhokpota ground, Ring Road Benin city.
