Scores Killed As Gas Explosion Rocks Nnewi
At least 35 people have been reportedly killed following gas explosions at an industrial gas plant in Nnewi, Anambra State.
Sources however said the death toll could be over 100 people comprising of factory workers and neighbours of the gas plant.
The incident reportedly occurred after a truck carrying butane cooking gas began offloading without waiting for the mandatory cooking time.
Witnesses say the explosion caused a huge fire that firefighters and residents took several hours to put out.
Vanguard Newspaper reports that people who had come to fill their gas as well as passersby where caught up in the explosion.
The dead and injured are being taken to the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital in Nnewi, but police sources who confirmed the incident is unable to give figures of the casualty.
