Saraki’s Appointment Of PDP Youth Leader As Special Assistant: Matters Arising Philips Adeyanju
When the heat on his debatable seat was scorching, with very few friends at his side, the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki was seen frolicking and snapping awkward selfies with young stalwarts of the APC.
Now that things have died down and he has settled in, rumours coming out of the National Youth Council is that this same Bukola Saraki, who has a national history of double-crossing his former friends to achieve his personal ends has appointed a controversial and well-renown PDP youth leader, Ugochinyere Ikenga, from the National Youth Council of Nigeria as his Special Assistant on Youth and Students.
Many will remember that Ugochinyere Ikenga is the one-time self-appointed factional leader of the NYCN who openly campaigned for Goodluck Jonathan and other PDP candidates in the last general elections. With Ikenga’s rumoured appointment, Saraki has sent a message to young APC members that none of them are worthy of serving in this position.
Maybe what Bola Ahmed Tinubu said of Saraki is true.During a recent media war, Tinubu accused Saraki of being disloyal and being APC on paper but fully PDP in his soul.
At an organizing workshop held in Abuja recently, Comrade Ibrahim Dasuki Jalo, the National Youth Leader of the APC, commented on the trend of “using and dumping” of APC youths that has been gone on at the national level since the APC assumed national power.
Speaking at the event Jalo said: ”It is my opinion that the young people of the party be given the opportunity to serve in leadership positions especially by this government because of the role they played in ensuring victory during the last election.”
Philips Adeyanju is a former member of the National Youth Council of Nigeria.
