Saraki Pension: PDP Fires Back, Says Saraki’s N100m Monthly Pension Unjustifiable
The controversy generated by the obnoxious pensions being laws enacted by some former governors of the states of the federation has refused to die down as the Kwara state Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has unearthed more damming allegations against both the Kwara government and former Governor Bukola Saraki.
The PDP, in reaction to the defence of the Kwara government to the allegations earlier raised by the PDP in respect of the pensions, accused the Kwara government of exposing Sen. Saraki the more by its defence, describing the alleged pension package as ‘indefensible’ and ‘unjustifiable.’
The statement, released by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Chief Rex Kola Olawoye, said that the mere denial that Saraki draws the benefits of the pension since he left office some three years was not enough.
Although the government had claimed that Saraki had never demanded for security operatives, but the PDP asked why the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, on 10th September, 2013, threatened to sue the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for breaching the laws that provided for the security withdrawn by the police authority.
“If the salaries of Bukola Saraki’s retinue of police and SSS security attachés were not being charged on the state meager allocations, why did the Kwara State House of Assembly subsequently pass a resolution describing the alleged withdrawal as ‘unconstitutional, ‘illegal’ and a ‘breach of law’ the legislators’ validly passed? If the KWSG is denying the assertion of the PDP on the over N100million that Bukola Saraki draws monthly from the public treasury in the name of pension benefit, it is also ready to deny its own speaker who had much earlier admitted that the security operatives are Bukola Saraki’s birthright pursuant to the pension law?”
The PDP also has some words against the palatial mansion at Museum Street, GRA, Ilorin, Kwara state. The party, which stated that the building is ‘derisively call “Saraki Pension House” by Kwarans, alleged that a point, the Kwara government ordered the contractos handling the building project in May, 2012, to raise its fence against public view, after the Sahara Reporters, an online medium, had exposed the obscenities contained therein.
“Meanwhile, the fact that the government would so easily lie over Mr. Bukola Saraki’s publicly funded security apparatus, his ‘Pension House’ and other perks that he enjoys naturally presupposes that the whole indefensible rejoinder the KWSG gave against the verifiable revelations of the PDP is nothing but a pack of lies. These glaring lies have therefore vitiated all other cover-ups that the government dished out to the public in defence of a man that is currently standing trial in the case of IGP versus Sen. Bukola Saraki (FHC/ABJ/CS/152) for bleeding the state dry while in office and has refused to stop even out of office through his obnoxious pensions!”
“We therefore ask the government to truthfully own up to its incompetence, do the needful by abrogating the obnoxious law as being requested by the overwhelming majority of Kwarans and finish up its remaining months in office to pave way for a more purposeful and truthful government.”
This medium recalls that the Kwara government, in reactions to earlier allegations of the Kwara PDP, had denied that the state was paying the former Senator any emoluments at all, apart from his monthly pay. The government said neither Saraki nor any member of his family had requested for any amount at all for medicals since he left office three years ago. It therefore tagged the PDP as bunch of liars that always sought to profit from cheap political issues.
