Sanusi Floors FG Again as Court Rules Against FRCN
Justice John Tsoho, o f the Federal High Court , Lagos, has stopped the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRCN) from investigating the acts and deeds of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, the suspended governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). While delivering judgment on Monday, May 12, Justice John Tsoho said that the posturing of FRCN officials shows that they are already prejudiced, hence their decision could not be adjudged free of external influence. This remark was made despite the fact that the FRCN is saddled with the responsibility of ensuring accountability in the financial sector.
“The language of the briefing note (transmitted by the FRCN to the presidency) conveys a sense of the defendant desperately goading the presidency to deal with the plaintiff,” Judge Tsoho observed.
The judge further noted that Mr. Sanusi’s fate had long been decided even before their investigation commenced thus countering the FRCN’s argument that their recommendation to the presidency was basically an advisory one.
“The plaintiff submitting himself for investigation (by FRCN) is like the cockroach finding itself in the midst of fowls. Such a cockroach cannot be innocent,” the Judge mused.
