Sanusi and Saraki’s Vendetta Against CBN By Adetayo Adegbemle
As the inauguration date of the new administration draws closer, various individuals have begun aligning and re-aligning to further extend their political relevance in the new dispensation; few, (if any) for the benefit of the nation, and the rest, for personal gains of looting the nations treasury. In the last couple of days, we have seen articles from 2 camps of the APC – the ‘technocrats‘ and the godfather(s); with each camp trying to tell us how terrible the other is – only time will tell which camp will emerge victorious.
One thing is certain, the days ahead will definitely be interesting!
Two major actors in the APC, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki and Sanusi Lamido Sanusi are already putting finishing touches to hijack the entire economy from Buhari and eventually detect who gets what’s within the CBN (in particular) and the entire Nigerian financial sector as a whole, prior to his removal as CBN governor. Mr. Sanusi had in the last few years acted as a saboteur to the efforts of the Jonathan economic team (headed by the erudite Dr. Ngozi Iweala); he was the insider feeding the opposition with half-truths and in many instances outright lies about the state of the economy amongst other issues. It is no longer a hidden secret that his recent attempt to wriggle out of his failure to explicitly state how much he claims is missing from NNPC (via an article on the recently released PWC audit report) is meant to save face and reposition him for the task ahead.
Bukola Saraki and Lamido Sanusi first met in Kings College and their bond has waxed stronger since then, after all, “can two walk together unless they be agreed?” The two are determined to remove Godwin Emefiele as CBN governor as soon as General Buhari is sworn in; Sanusi has not forgiven the CBN governor for the role he (assumes he) played in his suspension. The nation waits to see if the incoming administration will follow due process in allowing Emefiele complete his tenure in accordance with the CBN act or if he will be removed over flimsy excuses in accordance with Sanusi‘s and Saraki‘s wishes; time will tell.
Candidates have reportedly been short listed for the CBN job and they include:
- Mr. Wale Edun (former Lagos state Finance Commissioner).
- Mr. Aik- Imohkuede (former Access Bank MD).
- Mr. Olakanmi Gbadamosi (CBN Director of Procurement).
These three persons are connected in one way or the other to Sanusi during his days at First Bank; Aik-Imohkuede is the cover Sanusi and Saraki used to buy over Erastus Akingbola‘s Intercontinental Bank because he refused to give Saraki a bad loan he requested (and for also not giving Sanusi enough respect), an offence the strong man of Kwara sees as unforgivable; Saraki who ran a bank underground and is currently standing trial for looting billions from his state had a loan of about 9 Billion Naira waived for him by Sanusi, the same favour was equally extended to Aik-Imohkuede to position him to buy over Intercontinental Bank, hence he never repaid the 17 Billion Naira loan he got – what a country.
Saraki who is also aspiring to be Senate President is employing everything in his arsenal to fulfill this desire; since the duo believes the position will further grant them leverage to execute whatever imaginations their hearts come up with, no matter how evil.
With the numerous stories of how ‘incorruptible‘ Buhari is and the reality that in his first coming he was not in total control of government structures, in a short while, we will know the truth about the stand of his administration on corruption as well as corrupt people; if this dangerous plan of Saraki and Sanusi along with the manipulations of Tinubu, ‘Saint‘ Amaechi, El-Rufai, Fayemi et al all come to fruition, Nigerians would not need any prophet to tell them this is “one chance” and not change in any ramification.
