Rivers Gov Nyesom Wike Bans Officials From Appearing Before EFCC

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike says no official of State Government will appear before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over what he describes as “politically motivated investigations.”

This according to him will remain until the Commission approaches the Court of Appeal to set aside the 2007 Judgment secured by the Administration of Former Governor Peter Odili barring it from investigating the State.

Wike says the EFCC as a Federal Agency has no business with state funds adding that the responsibility belongs to the State House of Assembly

The Governor in a statement described the action of the EFCC as a “Political witch-hunt” saying that the Media trial by the EFCC will amount to nothing, pointing out that the Rivers State Government was aware of the move before it even started.

The Governor pointed out that Rivers State had all along been the ultimate target of the EFCC when it decided to freeze the Accounts of Akwa Ibom and Benue State Governments adding that the Commission has already been detailed to carry out very unconstitutional activities against Rivers State.

Governor Wike further stated that the greatest impunity there could ever be is for the EFCC to shut down a tier of Government by freezing its accounts, saying this is nothing short of a coup against the Constitution and the law-abiding people of those state.
