Reps Summon DSS DG, Lawal Daura
The House of Representatives has summoned the Director General of the State Security Service (SSS), to appear and offer explanation on the arrest of Judges conducted over the weekend.
The decision of the House was taken on Tuesday following a motion tabled by a lawmaker from Rivers State, Chinda Ogundu.
The lawmakers also constituted an ad-hoc committee to investigate the clampdown and said they hoped Lawal Daura, the DG of SSS, will appear before it for further explanation.
A lawmaker, Mojeed Alabi, suggested that the House should respect the principles of separation of powers and stay away from the matter, but the House approved the motion nonetheless.
The House said the SSS must explain where it derived the power to raid judges’ homes.
Meanwhile, the Senate declined to summon the SSS DG, but condemned its action which has continued to generate views amongst Nigerians.
