Real Madrid Defeats Barcelona to Lift Spanish Supercopa
The hosts had failed to win in their last seven home meetings with Barca but went about ending that record early on with goals in the first 20 minutes.
Striker Gonzalo Higuain gave the lead to Jose Mourinho’s side 11 minutes into the match at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium in Madrid on Wednesday.
Cristiano Ronaldo doubled the lead eight minutes later.
The visitors were reduced to 10 men as Adriano was shown a straight red card for denying Ronaldo a clear goals coring opportunity, but they regained their composure and were brought back into the game by a stunning free-kick from Lionel Messi just before half-time.
It is the first Spanish Supercopa win for Real Madrid since it last won it in 2008
