Rainstorm Destroys 200 Houses in Ekiti – SEMA
The General Manager of Ekiti State Emergency Management Agency, Mr. Jide Borode, has said over 200 houses have been destroyed by rainstorms in the state in the first two months of the year.
Borode, who said this in Ado Ekiti, the state capital, noted that the disaster mainly affected four local government areas of the state.
He listed the affected communities to include Ado metropolis, Emure, Ise and Erinjiyan, in the Ekiti West LGA of the state where he estimated the damage to run into hundreds of millions of naira.
Borode however warned people in the state to avoid building houses in flood-prone areas, adding that the best period to acquire land was during the rainy season when flood prone-areas could be easily identified.
