Protection Against Kidnappers, Jinn And All Evil Persons, By Imam Gusau
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Brothers and Sisters! Collected by Diya’ Deen Al-Maqdasi no. 1260, in Ahadith Al-Mukhtar Isnad sahih that:
“Ubay Ibn Ka’ab (RA) had a basin of dried dates. There were some dates missing, so that night he stood guard over them. Suddenly a riding animal appeared resembling a young man. The creature gave Salams, thus Ubay Ibn Ka’ab returned them. Ubay asked the beast are you a Jinn or a human. The creature replied, “No, I am a Jinn. Ubay Ibn Ka’ab said: “Give me your hand.” The Jinn extended his hand and strangely enough his hand was like a dog’s paw with hair like a dog’s fur. The jinn said, “This is the way the Jinn are created.” Ubay said: “That night I learnt something about the Jinn and in their midst is a being more courageous than myself. I asked, “Why did you come here?” The Jinn replied, “News reached me that you love to give charity, so I came for some of your food. “Ubay Ibn Ka’ab asked, “What protects us humans against you? “The Jinn said: “Ayatul Kursiyyu in Suratul Baqarah (2: 255). Whoever reads it in the evening will be safe against us until the morning and whoever reads it in the morning will be shielded from us until the evening. The next morning I went to the Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) and told him what happened. He said: The evil one has spoken the truth.”
Benefits for this subject:
Brothers and Sisters! This Hadith was collected by Diya-din Al-Maqdasi in Ahadith Al-Mukhtar. It wasn’t narrated within the other nine books of Hadith (Muwatta Malik, Musnad Ahmad, Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawud, At-Tirmithi, An-Nasa’i, Ibn Majah, and Ad-Darami). [See Zawa’id Al-Ahadith Al-Mukhtar of Diya’ Din Al-Maqdisi, compiled by Shaykh Salih Ahmad Ash-Shami]
Although this Hadith isn’t collected in those books of Hadith there are two other similar stories that happened among the Sahabah (RA). At the end of each story the Prophet affirmed the Jinn/Shaitan spoke the truth. For example:
1- The Hadith of Abu Hurairah (RA) in Sahihul Bukhari, no. 5010.
2- The Hadith of Abu Ayyub Al-Ansari (RA) in Musnad Imam Ahmad, At-Tabarani and Hakim.
Ubay Ibn Ka’ab:
Ubay Ibn Ka’ab Ibn Qais Ibn Ubaid (RA) witnessed the battle of Badr and the pledge of Aqabah. Umar Ibn Khattab used to call him the leader of the Muslims. Ubay Ibn Ka’ab is among the Companions who issued fatawa, was a reference for contemporary issues during his era, and was the first one to write for the Prophet (Peace be upon him). Ayatul Kursiyyu ( 2: 255):
No single verse in the Quran encompasses the meanings that Ayatul Kursiyyu does. [See Jawab Ahlul Ilm, by Ibn Taimiyyah, page 133]
“Whoever reads it in the evening will be safe against us until the morning and whoever reads it in the morning will be safeguarded from us until the evening.”
Brothers and Sisters! The timings for the morning to say this verse begins at Fajr (Subh) and continues until forenoon. The evening period to say this verse starts from Asr and continues until the middle of the night. If a person oversleeps and wakes up at 11.a.m, then Inshaa Allah there is no harm if he reads Ayatul Kursiyyu then. [Shaykh Muhammad Uthaimin, in Fatawa Nur ala ad-Darb, no. 6375 and no. 6376]
It’s enough for a person to move his lips and make sure the letters come out of his mouth than recite it loudly. [Shaykh Muhammad Al-Uthaimin, in Fatawa Nur ala Ad-Darb, no. 6368]
Some whispers that a Muslim possibly will be safeguarded against the following evil actions by practicing this Sunnah:
1. From having doubt in Allah.
2. From the thought to apostate.
3. From having bad thoughts about the scholars.
4. From the idea to worship Allah by committing un-legislated (Bid’ah) and Haram acts.
5. From the inspiration to divide and split Muslims.
6. From the encouragement to fall into shirk heedlessly.
7. From the coercion to sin.

Abu Hurairah (RA) Narrated:
“In Surah al-Baqarah there is a verse which is the best of all the verses of the Quran. It is never recited in a house but the Satan leaves: Ayatul Kursiyyu.”
“Everything has its pinnacle and the pinnacle of the Quran is Surah al-Baqarah. In it there is a verse which is the greatest in the Quran: Ayatul Kursiyyu.” [at-Tirmidhi]
Ibn Mas’ud (RA) says that a person requested Rasulullah (Peace be upon him) to teach him something that will benefit him. “Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) said, ”Recite Ayatul Kursiyyu, it will protect you, your children, home and even those houses surrounding your house.”
Surely, recitation of this verse Ayatul Kursiyyu of Noble Quran brings us under the protection of Allah who is the best protector in this world. Abu Hurairah reported that:
“Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) ordered me to guard the Zakah revenue of Ramadan. Then somebody came to me and started stealing of the foodstuff. I caught him and said, “I will take you to Allah’s Messenger! “That person said (to Abu Hurairah), “Please don’t take me to Allah’s Messenger and I will tell you a few words by which Allah will benefit you. When you go to your bed, recite Ayatul Kursiyyu, (2:255) for then there will be a guard from Allah who will protect you all night long, and Satan will not be able to come near you till dawn.” When the Prophet heard the story he said (to me), “He (who came to you at night) told you the truth although he is a liar, and it was Satan.” [Sahih Al-Bukhari]
And all praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds. May the peace, blessings and salutations of Allah be upon our Noble Messenger, Muhammad, and upon his family, his Companions and his true followers.
