Pro-Govt #ReleaseOurGirls Group in Free for All Fight Over Govt Largesse
Members of the #ReleaseOurGirls Group, a rival group believed to be sponsored by the Federal Government to match the activities of the #BringBackOurGirls group on Wednesday engaged each other in a free-for-all fight over the sharing formula for the funds given to them.
The rival group had gathered at the Unity Fountain where the #BringBackOurGirls movement has been holding a daily sit-out since the Chibok irls were abducted more than three months ago, with a view to mount pressure on government to rescue the girls.
The pro-government group, the members of which were dressed in white T-shirts bearing the inscription #ReleaseOurGirls, tok over the sitting area of the #BringBackOurGirls Group with their musical equipment and was shouting for the release of the girls by the Boko Haram sect.
The #BringBackOurGirls Group, which was not deterred by the other group’s presence, relocated to a spot near the Transcorp Hilton to hold its daily sit-out session and mark the 100 days of the Chibok girls in captivity.
Things however spiraled out of control when the money provided to be shared amongst pro-government group resulted in a fight spilled into the main road.
Even the presence of the FCT minister of state, Olajumoke Akinjide, who was personally at the Unity Fountain with the group did not make any difference.
It took the intervention of the Nigeria Army who immediately mobilised soldiers to restore order and also ensure no harm came to members of the #BringBackOurGirls Group.
