PRESS STATEMENT: The Peak Of Impunity Under President Goodluck Jonathan
The unprecedented rate of impunity in this present administration of Nigeria led by President GoodLuck Jonathan is very alarming and reached its peak by the withdrawal of the Security of the Speaker of the Federal House of Representative Rt. Hon Aminu Waziri Tambuwal over his legitimate withdrawal of membership from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party to the opposition All Progressive Congress.
Nigerians received the shock of the crooked announcement by the Inspector General of Police to the effect of withdrawal of security aides of the legally recognized 4th Citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in a calculated attempt to intimidate and hoodwink the Office of the Speaker into an unholy submission to the whips and caprices of President Jonathan. It is very unfortunate to note that the Inspector General of Police who refused to maintain sanctity and correct the numerous misdemeanors in the Nigeria Police Force with dented image before common Nigerians could descend to the gutter level of political meddlesome as shown in this case.
It is worth to note that the Federal House of Representative has independence of operations as enshrined in Nigeria Constitution and the latest retrogressive actions of Mr President against the Honourable Speaker is an affront and trespass against the independence of the Legislature. It is a fundamental right of the Speaker to defect to another Political Party in the midst of unresolved crises in the Sokoto State Chapter of PDP.
In the Second Republic, the Speaker of the Federal House of Representative Late Rt. Hon Ezeoke reigned in the capacity of Speaker as a member of an opposition party which is a precedence that aligns with the present situation in the Federal House of Representatives. The defection of the Speaker from PDP to APC is in proper order as no provision of the Constitution contradicts the action of the Speaker.
As far as Nigeria Constitution is concerned, Hon Aminu Tambuwal has not commited any action that contravenes the dictates of our laws and the withdrawal of his security is a breach of the regulations that confers the right of the Speaker to Security Aides.
Nigeria Youth Movement for Good Governance is a movement of veteran Youth and Students Activist across the Country, we condemn the withdrawal of the security of the Speaker by the Inspector General of Police in strong terms and hereby give an ultimatum of 3 days to the Inspector General of Police to reverse his wicked machinations and immediately restore the security of the Speaker or face mass protest to commence in Abuja at the expiration of the ultimatum.
We advise President Goodluck Jonathan to repent from impunity acts impeding on the rights of Nigerians and concentrate on actions capable of giving him soft-landing from criminal prosecutions at the expiration of his second term in the Office of the President by 29th May, 2015.
Signed:
Comrade AbdulRahman Agboola
