PRESS RELEASE: The State of Nasarawa State Students Association (NASSA), ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
On behalf of the immediate past National Executives of Nasarawa State Students Association (NASSA) National Body, I wish to express the state of the NASSA with following facts.
This is a matter which should never been taken to the press but should be resolve internally without the general public knowing the state of our Association. What is contained in some press release and publications in the past months is false and erroneous.
The attention of the immediate past EXCOS of the Nasarawa State Students Association (NASSA) has been drawn to some group of unknown students who are parading themselves as the EXCOS of this Association without convention that was held to elect this National EXCOS as provided by the NASSA constitution by virtue of section 23 and section 33 of the said constitution to pilot the affairs of the Association.
On Monday 7th October, 2013 a Mini-convention was held at Nasarawa State Polytechnic Lafia and the following persons emerged as the caretaker Transition Committee (CTC) Nasiru Abdullahi, Onesimu Agidi, Usman Ahmed Umme, Isa Maikasuwa, Yusuf Yahuza, Talatu Ali, Musa Aliyu and Umar Kasim also emerged as the senate president, and Akolo David as the Clark of the house to handle the Association before a National Convention. The outgoing EXCOS supervised the Mini-convention which meets up all the democratic process and we submitted the names of these elected persons to the appropriate authority for recognition without any compliant by any student or group of students.
For the avoidance of doubt, I wish to state unequivocally that by NASSA antecedent and democratic convictions, we the immediate past EXCOS would never be involved in any plot to derail the hard-earned effort of the forefathers of this association and our students both at home and in the Diaspora. And we will never do anything to jeopardise the future of the students in their struggle to achieve the association’s aims and objectives which is meeting their welfare. We remain committed to the students that give us support during our tenure.
In this regard, anyone purporting with the Kasim Mohammed Kasim, the SA on Student Matters to the governor of Nasarawa State led faction in NASSA should redress his step because this Association is a non-partisan body and it is not subordinate to the office of the special Assistant to the Governor rather it is co-ordinated in order to meet up with the students welfares.
The imposition of Chorio Friday Philip as the president, Esson Bako and Ramalan Suleiman as the vice president and secretary general and others by Kasim Mohammed is not only undemocratic, null and void, but against the principal of God on earth. In fact I want to call on these so-called Kasim’s National Excos to desist from parading themselves as the National Exco in the state. For those of us that are acquainted with Nasarawa State and Nigeria students activism will testify that Kasim is a failure, who normally fine it difficult to accept defeat as a sportsman. He is found of creating factions in any student’s body. I believe this time around he got it wrong because the stakeholders of NASSA and other concern students will resist this Kangaroo imposition of National Exco in this digital age.
NASSA is an intellect body which cannot be turn to a village forum or political parties where leadership are impose on people.
To put the records straight , these so-called National’s Exco he’s trying to imposed on the students were rejected by popular vote in 2012 convention, these students did not only lose their election, but were rejected by their school delegates at the convention.
The so-called President Chorio Friday Philip was defeated by outgoing Secretary General and his Vice President and Secretary General- Esson Bako and Ramalan Suleiman were defeated by the outgoing vice president and president respectively. And most of these Kasim’s Excos are 70 percent non-students some have graduated almost two years ago, while others are drop-out who are imposing false image of students in order to cause chaos within the student affairs.
I want to also use this opportunity to appeal to the students to remains calm and give Comrade Nasiru Abdullahi of Ahmadu Bello University Zaria led Transition Committee to conduct free fair and transparent election the way we emerged in 2012 convention.
I want to also appeal to Nasarawa State Government to call Kasim Muhammad, the special Assistant to the Governor on student matters to order and also to redress his actions and utterances which are divisive to the student and also has polarize the people of state.
He must be cautious and dignified in his utterances, actions and falseful publications of the Association. And apologize to the students for his criminal act.
Finally, I wish to appeal to NASSITES to remains steadfast and be loyal to Comrade Nasiru Abdullahi’s Excos, the great constitution of this Association and Nasarawa State Government. And also to avoid any acts that could derail our NASSA and Nasarawa State.
Aluta Continua Victoria Acerta
Comrade Lucky Yargwa.
Immediate past Vice President (2012-2013),
For: Immediate Past National Executives of NASSA.
